“You're not Dostoevsky,' said the citizeness

'Well, who knows, who knows,' he replied.

'Dostoevsky's dead,' said the citizeness, but somehow not very confidently.

'I protest!' Behemoth exclaimed hotly. 'Dostoevsky is immortal!”

New Order were beyond horrible last night. E.L. feckin' O were on today so I have purposely avoided the coverage. How they didn't go up against the wall in 1976 I'll never understand..... :D

PJ Harvey was amazing - the perfect soundtrack for this weekend. She also focused almost entirely on songs about England from the last labum. Looking at her set lists from the past few weeks this must have been a very conscious decision.

She also read out this poem written by John Donne from 1624 which brought a tear to my eye.

No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend's
Or of thine own were:
Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.

Saw a bit of LCD on the red button from the other stage too.

ha good to see the punk rock wars are still being fought by some :D
ELO are the band The Beatles could have been!

pretty uninspiring Glastonbury lineup (I refuse to call it Glasto!!) this year. I watched the Explosions In The Sky set, but the sound mix wasn't doing them any favours and I wasn't really feeling it.
apparently Sigur Ros did the equivalent of a 'greatest hits' set so will check them out too
and prob Kurt Vile too.

I was there and that Sigur Ros set was pretty mindblowing stuff, definitely the best band of the weekend for me by a long way. the setlist was pretty dark and intense, very different from last time i saw them which seemed a bit too joyous (on the takk tour?) and the visuals that accompanied the whole thing made it feel like being on an alien planet during a cosmic thunderstorm rather than in a mud-filled tent in a field.

other than that, explosions were good (didn't notice any mix problems at the time) but seemed a bit samey at times. goes with the territory i suppose. i also much prefer their stuff from the first couple of albums, so wasn't so fussed about newer tracks.

bat for lashes and pj harvey were both amazing, as they are every time i've seen them. pj's set was particularly cool though, with all those saxophones and her intense stare... i loved the version of 'dollar dollar' she played - it reminded me of a more tragic version of spacemen 3's 'soul 1'

i waited in vain for radiohead on the last night, before heading to lcd, who were amazing. plaid at the glade was another classic glastonbury experience.

was a bit miffed i didn't make it to m83, as that stage was too far away and the mud made it really slow to get anywhere.
gonna watch their set online...

I'll have to check out the Sigur Ros set then... I used to be quite keen on them but I haven't listened to them in a while, don't know why
