Friendly Fire

Post by bunchyboy »

I am not only new to this board but also Spititualized. Like all new loves I fall hard and have fallen hard for this band. My first album was LGM and it blew me away. I have since purchased Pure Phase, Live @ RAH, Blue for Blue, Radio Sessions & Fucked Up Inside. However, Friendly Fire has escaped me and my favorite Spiritualized period is the early 90's.

Can anyone tell me where I can find this album?

Thanks

To be fair mate, I don`t think it`s an official release, but probably Discogs would be your best bet I would think. And welcome to the world of Spiritualized.

it was originally made by a former memeber of the band (i think) for sale and then the old website gave it away as a free download
“You're not Dostoevsky,' said the citizeness

'Well, who knows, who knows,' he replied.

'Dostoevsky's dead,' said the citizeness, but somehow not very confidently.

'I protest!' Behemoth exclaimed hotly. 'Dostoevsky is immortal!”

I appreciate everyone posting so quickly.

Yes I have heard Ladies & Gentlemen...my fav is "Ithink I am in love." The bass line, slide & harmonica absolutely kill me...fkg brilliant especially w/ my headphones.

Thanks for the dropbox which I will grab asap.

A little late to the party but glad I finally made it. Thanks again my friends.

welcome to the world of Spiritualized bunchyboy.

after getting hold of the official stuff you'll want to get stuck into some live bootlegs. if the early 90s era is your favourite, you're in for a treat!

You really should get Let it Come Down, which I consider superior to LAGWAFIS in many ways. Of all the official Spiritualized releases, that's the album I listen to the most.

To be fair I generally skip On Fire, as it's not representative of the quality of that album. In fact I'd say it's one of the worst songs Jason's ever written, plus it sounded bloody awful when they tried to play it live!
I'm like Evel Knievel, I get paid for the attempt. I didn't promise this shit would be good!

I am very fond of Let It Come Down. In fact I think it may be a little underrated. the album is kind of the turning point between Old Spiritualized and New Spiritualized and doesn't get mentioned that much.

It was the first Spiritualized album I bought on release and the one that made me a proper fan.
I love the ambition of it and how the massive string arrangements are not bolted on but largely integral to the pieces of music (listen up, Ashcroft!). a good example of this is I Didn't Mean To Hurt You where the strings kind of are the song

I actually really like On Fire, although I can see how it might seem a little clunky. That and The Twelve Steps seems to suffer a little from being the token rockers but also trying to have the same scale as the rest of the album. still like them though.

Don't Just Do Something is one of their finest songs.
The live renditions are tremendous.

Hi,

Would it be possible to get a new link to the Friendly Fire and Blue on Blue compilations?

Cheers!

Random thought popped into my head this afternoon , and I'm sure I saw someone post on here recently(ish) that they were looking for Friendly Fire and Blue On Blue but unsure what thread it was on. I have them and would be happy to upload them, but I only have them in fairly low bitrate (160kbps) for FF and mixed for BoB. Let me know if they're needed...
