RIP Jaki Liebezeit (Can)

some great music and given their 'intakes' he did well to reach 78!

RIP
“You're not Dostoevsky,' said the citizeness

'Well, who knows, who knows,' he replied.

'Dostoevsky's dead,' said the citizeness, but somehow not very confidently.

'I protest!' Behemoth exclaimed hotly. 'Dostoevsky is immortal!”

truly truly one of the great drummers. when I first heard his playing it blew my mind.

he could somehow make the simplest beat sound complex and interesting for minutes on end, and his playing really did drive the whole band just like any good drummer should.

That's a very bad start to 2017. One of the great masters of rhythm. RIP Jaki.

Here's a fantastic 2 hour mix of Can (and related) material by Cherrystones. I'm 45mins and it's a beauty so far.

what a great mix
rip jaki -

here's him telling a great story of how his drum style developed... (around 2:36 is when Jaki comes in). From a pretty fun doc the BBC did in 2009 about the relationship between Krautrock and the new Germany that was emerging in the post-war period (and how the two fed back into each other). Lots of great footage and interviews.
