And another suggestion...

Post by Laz69 »

Silly that its taken all the recent drama for us to realise our appreciation for this place BUT good to see how important this place is for us all.

Anyway, back to business...

Where did we ever get to with the additional volume(s) of the unofficial Complete Works collection? We had 8 (maybe 9) volumes already and then i think there was a start to another but it never really saw the light of day. Is it worth resurrection this? Has there been enough additional material over the years to complete it? I'll see if i can find the thread...

We seem to have got as far as Vol.8 and 9 and then started on a remix (Vol.12)... did we ever finish vol12? And what about 10 and 11? Ideas?

Spiritualized The Real Complete Works, Volume 12 - The Remixes

1. Global Communication - Maiden Voyage (Spiritualized Electric Mainline Remix)
2. Dr. John - John Gris (J. Spaceman Remix)
3. LFO - Tied Up (Spiritualized Remix)
4. 22-20s - Hold On (Spaceman Remix)
5. Editors - Camera (Obscured by J. Spaceman)
6. Yoko Ono - Walking On Thin Ice (Featuring J. Spaceman)
7. Goldfrapp - Monster Love (Goldfrapp vs. Spiritualized)
8. Fuck Buttons - Olympians (Spaceman vs The Olympians Remix)

I recently found a Spiritualized remix of a Cut Copy song (Free Your Mind) which is quite good and could be included in Vol12.

We have the couple of Kenzo pieces too which could be added to Vol 10 or 11 along with the Primal Scream cover of Mantra For A State Of Mind which featured Jason too.

Anything else?

IIRC Jason played and sang on the Broken LP by Soulsavers. Can't remember the song title offhand though, but it (and the whole LP) are excellent.

Does any one have copies of vol8 and 9? Can you post links?

I don't have mine to hand and can't even remember if i have them at home either. If someone can provide copies of them i'll happily share out the whole set in its current form for anyone who is missing a set.

He also played guitar on 'Pom Pom' by Ariel Pink - I think the track 'Sexual Athletics. Not sure if it really fits in the tag of 'Spiritualized' though.

There is this track:
Bay of Pigs - Bay of Pigs (Spiritualized, Soldiers of Fortune, and Neil Hagerty)
This is the only recording of the US Spiritualized line up with Neil Hagerty.
On the Mexican Summer Five release.
BzaInSpace has a recording of it.

I brought the 10" over on my last visit so Barry could record it. I am pretty sure the only way it is available is the actual 10". No one has ripped as far as he knew. That will be a nice project for him when he checks in next.

I have both those tracks ready for the next disc. Slim pickings from recent times unless people can suggest some more. The last two (8 and 9) had mainly live material so i was trying to stick to recorded stuff for now until we had an idea of what we have to play with.

If anyone else has any other tracks they can think of, please let me know.

If this is the case then how come no one has it to upload? This isn't something that would get by this crowd.
There was no album either. It was a hardcover book with a 5 track 10" to celebrate Mexican Summer's 5th Anniversary. They were around $50.

this mix certainly deserves the rating as it beautifully combines a unique mix of ambiance, somewhat a touch of 70's indie and is extremely listenable

Laz, thank you, I haven't had these for years and they're all fantastic.

One question: are these the original rips or are they original rips burnt to a CD and then re-imported?

I've lost track of where I stored my download of the Spiritualized re-working of "Free Your Mind" by Cut Copy. It was pretty impressive and sonically had plenty in common with some original J.Spaceman compositions.

To call it just a Spiritualized remix doesn't really do justice, though I believe that was how it was technically titled. As I recall the vox on that mix were actually credited to Jason, which is mentioned in a Guardian online review easily found via Google.

It seems worthy of inclusion in the broader Spiritualized canon of work, since the remix differs so much from the original track. Plus if Jason added his own musical contribution on top of his production, that elevates the track above what we typically expect from a remix.
I'm like Evel Knievel, I get paid for the attempt. I didn't promise this shit would be good!

I have idea for Vol. 13 - Interviews in audio. I know some do not prefer them, but through all years we got some. My suggestion is that number thirteen should be about talk and interviews with Jason. No transfers from youtube! I don't only mean the "Let it come down" interview disc thing only. Over the years Jason did many interviews on radio, like for example answering question in the middle of the acoustic session. I'm sure there is a way to cut and produce all that stuff into one magic timeless machine.
Rule would be not using youtube uploads or using them as little as possible. Well, i see myself doing it. Vol. 13 interviews only disc - for the memory and for the sake of being spaced out talker as Jase is. I offer to be the producer, if you guys agree and want this at all. What do you say, eh - say, one hour long audio history story about SPZ?

We're actually missing Vol.11 currently as we jumped a few, so you could have that or we can skip to Vol.13 if you wish.

This sounds like a great idea. If there was any way to get a range of interviews from the start of Spiritualized right through, i think that would be brilliant. I know some of those early Peel sessions the band were very... how would you say... non-talkative?  but that would still be good to capture too. Lets hope we can find enough stuff.

Nice one Veiko :D

I think an interview disc is a great idea. I've got some audio files I could contribute.

the Marc Radcliffe interview with a monosyllabic Jason is classic!

not sure why youtube rips shouldn't be considered? surely it should be about getting a good breadth of interviews across the years, no matter the source.

Well i guess i skipped 11 because i thought my idea will take too much time for materializing, that perhaps number 13 would be more realistic. Anyway, that does not matter, what matters is more people finding it useful and a good idea. So, support is the theme here also. Does anyone have the NME audio interview that was done around Pure Phase? That was about 30 minutes long. I did not manage to save it, that would be something special! I guess that interviews from different countries are good too, i could cut out the translations or something. I say this because i have something from Finnish radio. That is a weird thing on it's own, as i remember the host of the show said that Jason suggested that he would go to the roof of the building for having a better connection, but on the same time planes were flying over and police sirens intervening. I personally like this project a lot, so lets hope it will turn out great.Whoever wants to participate just stick your head out, but lets also make this as a law that we shall not use anything that is already posted on youtube or other same kind of media machines.

There's also the track, "Bring It On Lord" on the Bill Fay album, Who Is The Sender, that allegedly "features" Jason on vocals.

I'll try to upload a rip.
It's nice to be liked,
But it's better by far to get paid.

Long time lurker here, I just wanted say thanks to Laz69 for The Complete Works so far dropbox link.

Also reading through this thread reminded me of the Stranded in Canton show @ The Barbican which deserves a honourable mention (http://thebluemoment.com/2015/07/05/egglestons-memphis/)

Not sure if a boot of that ever surfaced, or whether it would work in the context of what you're all trying to do here. A friend of mine might have a rough recording, but it might be way too raw (I accidentally booted an empty beer cup at his phone when I was coming back from the toilet  )

it's very amusing isn't it :) a bit like pulling teeth.
Jason definitely got (a bit) more comfortable with interviews as the years went by. in Spacemen 3, of course, Sonic did all the talking.

Hey all,

I was the guy who put together the 'new' volumes of the RCW all those years ago, with help from you guys. I check on here periodically for Spiritualized news and I'm glad to see this has come back up!

When this happened it was just after SHSL had been released (I think?) so my plan was for Songs In A&E and it's resultant B-Sides, live tracks such as Life Is A Problem, and single edits to be Volume 10, then SHSL to be Volume 11.

Apparently a few years ago, I did start throwing tracks into these two volumes, which I present here - these are out of order of release and not sequenced, just how iTunes relabelled them. Gonna throw in notes to explain my dumb choices.
There's definitely work to do with the volume, given the Kid Millions stuff in the 2013/14 tours and the new songs dropped into the set since. I welcome your ideas!

Volume 10

Guitar Loops (A 3 minute excerpt, from the start I think)
Soul On Fire
Sweet Talk
You Lie, You Cheat
(These next three are from the Jools Holland 2008 show, which was their live debut? Also, the only performances of the first two songs with a band+string section)
Silent Sound (Another excerpt, from the first release - this is just the first 'movement', aka Harmony 2)
Garden Walk (I put a bunch of Mr Lonely stuff in here, because J considers it very important to the creation of the album. Also, this is just lovely)
Soul On Fire (Single Edit)
Pope In The Bath (only wanted one 12 bar instrumental from Mr Lonely, there are a few iirc)
Panama 1 (Just wanted some noise in there, I guess?)
True Love Will Find You In The End (Union Chapel, Soul On Fire B-side)
Life Is A Problem ( Sydney 2008, its live debut before SHSL)
Stooges Harmonica (Lol)
Sweet Talk (Single Edit) Thanks for Runci for hitting us up with this
Harmony 2 (And Then A Miracle Occurs)
Paris Beach (this is in because it has strings from Baby I'm Just A Fool)
Musicbox Underwater
I Think I'm In Love [Sydney 2008] This version is like 13 minutes long and has some dope delay pedal things in the intro, maybe not the most essential live cut from the 2008/2009 shows....

Volume 11

Always Forgetting With You (The Bridge Song)
Hey Jane (Promo Mix)
Little Girl (Promo Mix)
Freedom (Promo Mix)
I Am What I Am (Promo Mix)
Mary (Promo Mix)
So Long You Pretty Things (Promo Mix)
I Am What I Am (Instrumental)
True Love Will Find You In The End (Outtake)
Huh? (Outro)
"A" Song (Live) - This recording I have is a soundboard, ripped from some German gig/streaming service? It's been 5 years...
Mary (Live @ Maida Vale 2012)
Come Together (Live @ Maida Vale 2012) These two were officially released by the Beeb in some capacity, which maybe merits their inclusion?

Any input into sequencing or adding any songs to these monstrosities is welcome.

Spiritualized The Real Complete Works, Volume 12 - The Remixes

1. Global Communication - Maiden Voyage (Spiritualized Electric Mainline Remix)
2. Dr. John - John Gris (J. Spaceman Remix)
3. LFO - Tied Up (Spiritualized Remix)
4. 22-20s - Hold On (Spaceman Remix)

Hi,

Were these compilations ever released? If so would you please post new links for?

I suspect they're from the original promo that was sent out to journalists before Jason decided to delay the release of SHSL to do a bit more tweaking.
I think it was toomilk who got his hands on one of these copies. There's a discussion somewhere, probably in the SHSL thread.
