Stooges S/T 1969 LP Third Man

Post by spzretent »

When the Third Man Records pressing plant opened they did a run of uber limited hand screened LP's. This being one. Kick Out The Jams was another. They both sell for at least $100.
I went down to the Third Man store today and apparently they have been given the ok to sell copies of these with proper covers. The texture on the sleeve looks like linen. Kind of like the first UK pressings of Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures.
Anyway, I just put it on and this pressing sounds ridiculously great. There is a second lp with tracks from the deluxe 2 CD set that came out a few years ago. It has eight alternate versions.
Here is the Discogs listing.

If anyone wants one they are $30 plus tax and shipping. Not the $70 some people are asking.
I dont think they are allowed to sell outside of the physical Third Man shops. None on the web site either.
I cant vouch for the MC5 LP as I didn't pick one up. Those are $20 plus tax and shipping.

I'm interested in that Stooges 2xLP set if you wind up going back there anytime soon.

I am interested, does the cover look identical to the original, color-wise?

I like the sound of the textured feel.

This may be the MC5 issue, that one sounds interesting, too.

I'm a massive fan of the first & second Stooges albums.

If I could help you find something you need here in PA, I'd be happy. Our best local store has an amazing selection.

Yes. That is the MC5 pressing. Those are $20. Sleeve has same texture.
Note: These are standard black vinyl with full color covers. Third Man labels.
These are not the initial limited colored vinyl and screened cover that came out in April.

I realize they are not the über-limited versions.
It's kind of you to offer this to us!

Always willing to help my brothers out
Just got an email from my main guy who runs the vinyl at Third Man. These pressings are indeed only available at the two brick and mortar Third Man locations.
Not uber limited but not worth the $70 people are asking on line.
I am going to Third Man tomorrow so if anyone wants one pm me.
Paypal as friend so I dont get hit with fees. Just let me know what you want.

What's the tax on $30 there, and should we add $4-5 for shipping?

I stand corrected on the MC5.
That LP is $25 + tax or $30 all in including shipping.

Just curious if DaveDecay or Paul Warmth have listened to this yet?
I would love to know your thoughts on the pressing.

So far I played side 3 & 4, mainly because the alternate takes piqued my interest.

Sounds really good - I love all that noodly, spacy guitar work in We Will Fall.

Thanks so much again! I updated the discogs entry with photos, too.

I listened to sides 1 & 2 again last night and was again very pleased. Impressed even. Tough to do on a record like this.

I listened to the whole thing yesterday and thought it sounded fantastic. Pressing was clean and flat. Excellent work by Third Man. I assume this was pressed at the Cass Corridor plant.

Third Man to release The Stooges Live At Goose Lake LP. It's believed to be the only soundboard recording of the original lineup.

I am supposed to get a thank you on this LP.
One of the homes our business cleared out and packed for donation I found a Goose Lake poster. It was folded and torn but cool.
I mentioned it to Ben Blackwell and he said those are the only photos they know of and have included all of it or part of it in the artwork.
It's nice knowing the guys at Third Man. I helped them out on another release that is coming out in August. A Michigan Spacerock 2x LP. Quite a package they are putting together. Had a meeting at Third Man a few weeks ago and it was so good to get out and actually see people.
Also was able to pick some Icky Trump pins which was a bonus.
