Heavy Bastard Metal Indeed.

I also remember scouring the news pages of Melody Maker and NME for any scant news of Spiritualized. Didn't happen very often.

But... without NME I would probably never had ever heard this band. Or would I?

That early summer 1997 issue with the Fatboy Slim Big Beat mix cassette and Spz cover was my entire introduction to this music. With a handy guide to previous releases also. Sounded like something I had to hear.

There may be an argument that the concerted focus on the post-Strokes bands maybe killed the mag off. Or just the dilution of often lengthy opinions and album critiques reduced to mere soundbytes became increasingly pointless, especially in print format.

Or maybe it just was better when you were 16. :oops:
