Oh, dear God.
Disappeared up his own arse 20 years ago, now he's back with a new album featuring "the best collection of songs I've ever written". (uh-huh...)
And this was him on BBC Breakfast TV this morning https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/entertain ... er-tv-sofa , when he claimed he was "the only living, breathing, songwriter at the top of the charts".

A tiresome bore... and no where near as talented as he thinks he is. Totally fanny.

He must have one helluva publicist.
He has been irrelevant longer than he was ever any good.

Jesus. I managed 3 our of the 41 minutes. :(
He still has a lot of fans, though, judging by the comments below (and the fawning interviewer)

I'm more concerned that his album immediately appeared on the shelves of my nearest local music store (a fucking Walmart/ASDA monstrosity) yet And Nothing Hurt didn't, despite hitting the Top 10 in the Scottish music charts.

I feel bad for Richard though. His heart's in the right place.

Probs.

this is also quite an amusing read https://www.gigwise.com/features/328618 ... mYPJiB08xw

Together with dropping a packet of white powder on the studio floor on Soccer AM. Classy.

For Kate spotters, she gets the briefest of cameos in his Surprised by the Joy Video. If you can sit through it that long.

I used to think Ashcroft's antics were largely down to him knowing how to sell an album (give a few soundbites, etc) but now I'm starting to think it's a combination of Class As and a massive ego (perhaps to the point of some kind of narcissistic disorder)

how on earth can he put together yet another acoustic ballad (using G, C and D) and think 'oh yeah, I've taken it to another level. no one else is doing what I do'.

can't deny he's still got a fanbase though, the album has sold well and the tour is sold out too. different strokes for different folks I guess.

one of the songs on the new album (Birds Fly) is a reworking of one of the Urban Hymns demos. it's still a bit MOR but not bad.

he's gone full David Brent in that gigwise interview!
"If I wanna walk through Hull I'll walk through fucking Hull"

I'm a massive fan.....

....of Norman Records weekly emails.

Richard Ashcroft. The best thing we can say about it is that he’s successfully made sound come out.

Now that's a review.

We rehearse at Si Jones place sometimes (as well as place in Macclesfield which is great), he never ever mentions the Verve, he talks about Nick sometimes(they are supposedly getting together with Pete to do something, don't hold your breadth though), doesn't get drawn into slanging matches and it generally all round nice chap. None of this posturing, I am, I have be'en, I know him, I went there bullshit. Likewise Nick is similar if not a little more eccentric in his mannerisms.
Meanwhile this absolute baffoon Ashcroft is showing all the tell tale signs of coked up desperado, in need of love and attention and people telling him how good he is and unfortunately despite the blandness of his latest shite, there are plenty of these people

Imagine Ashcroft and Liam Gallagher in the same room together :x

Probably having a coked-up argument over who'd get to chow down on Ian Brown's knob (not in a gay way obviously) if he were to walk in at any point.

URGH ... he seems to have become such a dickhead but...

i'm at pains to type this but i'm enjoying 5 tunes on this effort. have avoided listening to anything by him since Alone With Everybody (which I reckon is a pretty fine record) apart from UNOS which I let my ears gawp at out of curiosity (shite obvs). 5 tunes a verging on enjoyable - Man In Motion is a bit of an earworm atm. who'd a thunk it?

same here, will readily admit to enjoying some of his tunes. AWE is solid, and there's some other good songs scattered around. funnily enough some of the AWE B sides are pretty good.

he decided to go a more traditional songwriter route and that's fine. by definition an artist's solo work should be a bit different to his band. I can see how the ego has got out of control though, and he really has written a lot of shite.

I find him absolutely unbearable these days, but I do think Alone With Everybody (and it's excellent b-sides) was a good solo effort. I remember getting a copy of the second one, Human Conditions, and being disappointed. Haven't latched onto anything since then. I still love The Verve, though.
