2019 - looking forward to....

Post by stegraham »

I guess the main one would be some UK Spiritualized gigs!! What's taking so long to get some in the diary?

Looking at the first two months of this year there are some tasty long player releases:

Jan
------
Steve Mason - about the light
Steve Gunn - the unseen between
Dandy Warhols - why you so crazy
Juleah - Desert Skies (this might be Feb - not sure)

Feb
-----
Mercury Rev - delta suite revisited
Piroshka - brickbat (new band with Miki from Lush)

They might be saying that no one wants to own music nowadays (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-46735093), but I'll be buying - hopefully - lots of new stuff this year!

What are others looking forward to in 2019?

amen to chomping at the bit for some UK dates. I am also looking forward to the new Steve Gunn.

there's also a new Twilight Sad album soon, then further down the line new releases from the Dream Syndicate and Chris Forsyth.

I say this every year, but perhaps we are also due some new My Bloody Valentine material too?

Confirmation from Juleah FB that her new release is out on the 15th Feb, so that's that ordered. Liking the new track off it - Strawberry Shake:

Also from FB I see that Elephant Stone are getting in the studio soon to record a new LP - great stuff, hope this makes 2019.

Just spotted this - out in March on Cherry Red:

Losing Touch With My Mind – Psychedelia In Britain 1986-1990 (https://www.cherryred.co.uk/product/var ... 1986-1990/)

Looks interesting - obviously SP3 are featured. Alot of stuff which I do not know. Nice to see the Moonflowers on there!

Think I will purchase a copy of this when the time comes!

anyone got any update on possible other new albums on the horizon?

in terms of new stuff I thoroughly recommend people having a listen to the new Chris Forsyth album

https://www.npr.org/2019/04/04/70907407 ... me-present

been a big fan of him for a few years now, he has a big element of the Television sound with clean, interlocking guitars (I've always had a MAJOR weakness for that!).

I didn't really dig the last album that much to be honest, he stripped it down a bit and it didn't really grab me. this new one is tremendous though, it's a double album so still plenty of his trademark sound but also leaving room for some new directions. there's some acoustic stuff, and some trippier stuff- Livin' on Cubist Time is a proper ambient kosmiche piece, and the finale Techno Top kind of does what it says on the tin.. highly recommended

Just seen that Clinic have a new album out in May, 'Wheeltappers And Shunters'.

New Earth, Death & Vanilla, Black Mountain and King Gizzard... in the next few weeks too.

Dunno if i'd say I was looking forward to any of them but i'll have a listen when they drop.

September is a good month for album releases:

L'épée
Moon Duo
3 Stereolab re-issues
Subhumans
Belle & Sebastian
The Cult

Also Cheval Sombre has just announced a new single - so hopefully his next album will be on the way soon... it seems to have been in the making for years!

The L'épée album is excellent. Not sure whether it will be a one off, but going to catch them in Brighton in December.

New Swans single "It's Coming It's Real" has got me super excited for their new album. Nice swampy gospel sound, reminiscent of early SPZ.

Also really looking forward to Angel Olsen.

big Angel Olsen fan here- have to say I didn't really like Mirrors that much (she's gone all flamboyant and Kate Bush), Larks was a bit better but I found it lacking melody. still interested to hear what this new album will be like.

also listened to the new Swans myself, again okay but didn't really whet my appetite.
maybe I'm getting grumpy and hard to impress these days!

Eating my words about the new Angel Olsen stuff, it's grown on me. She easily could have done a basic repeat of My Woman as her popularity had grown but she's gone in a new direction.
