Dr John

Post by olan »

Just heard the very sad news that Dr John has passed away. I have started to listen to his work quite a bit. Jason made a very decent contribution to his Anutha Zone LP.

won't pretend to be an expert on Dr John's career but I love Gris Gris- what a superbly unique stew that album is, it's a classic.

although I can't recall, there's a good chance I first became aware of his work via the Spiritualized connection.
there's some great pics online of Jason with Dr John (presumably from his work on the Anutha Zone album) where J is laughing and looks in total awe.

of course the piano playing on Cop Shoot Cop isn't too shabby either (no live version ever really captured that)

Bad week indeed.

Another example of his amazing piano playing as a 'mere' session musician is on 'Let it Loose' by the Stones.

That's simply all kinds of epic & beautiful.
