LP buying issues re: prices.

Post by spzretent »

I had this bizarre experience this past week. I was in a local record shop which prices all it's rare records with full on internet prices and the owner wont knock anything off which is odd.
Then I looked thru his new release section and I saw both Death In Vegas- Scorpio Rising and The Contino Sessions Music On Vinyl 2x LP colored vinyl reissues. Each was marked $42.99. Instead of just buying them I decided to go home and see if they were much cheaper anywhere else.
Amazon had Scorpio Rising for $14.50 and Contino Sessions for $17.50. I am a Prime member so shipping was free. $32 instead of $86.
WTF? How can there be such a massive price difference? This guy is better off buying on Amazon for his shop.
I would love to support local independent retail but not when it is like this.

Funny thing reading your post as I myself had a similar experience this week. I saw the Kruder & Dorfmeister KD Sessions box set at my local store for 60 euro’s. Later, at home I did a search online and found it was 10 euros cheaper in a german online store with free shipping. That’s not a price difference like the one you found, but still a significant one. I guess it’s just easier for big companies to mark down stuff where local shops can not do that. MOV reissues are import for the US and therefore more expensive to stock for local stores. But still, as a customer, if the price difference is so big, I’d choose my wallet, not my local store’s.

I'm all for bricks and mortar record shops over Amacuntz and the like but not if the shop is being run by a bandit. The local record shop plays many roles, but cheating the customer shouldn't be one of them.

Amazon packaging has been fine with my orders.
The shop is Village Vinyl across from Kuhnhenn Brewery in Warren.
Not even sure why they bothered stocking these records to be honest.
More of a hard rock/hardcore shop.

Oops, my response didnt posted a few days ago...

Never heard of this store. Odd they would get these releases. Looks like you got them for a steal on amazon, most on there are $36. Not sure what seller was selling them at $17, which I suspect you bough from that guy
