Damn great set. I have a bootleg from the Philly date on that tour and this setlist is MUCH more interesting.

It appears this show was the day after Richard collapsed and other bad stuff happened. You can hear it in Richard's voice in between songs.
That set was pretty much the same set I saw 4 days here in the Detroit area a few weeks later and they were completely recovered. They were amazing at this point.

Damn wish I could have seen them at that stage (a touch too young!).

imagine going to see this show, then experiencing that not only do they play a whole bunch of new songs, but many of those songs wouldn't even make the next album!
bit of Echo Bass at the and of Gravity Grave too

I don't think Richard enjoyed Lollapalooza all that much.
I remember an interview in which he described it as "playing to 30,000 Beavis and Buttheads"

They were not very well liked by the second stage bands either. At all.
They were also playing the second stage which maybe had a few thousand people. Not the main stage where at most there were 15,000 in those days.
Maybe had he not acted all Shaun Ryder/Happy Mondays-ish he may have had a better time and not wound up in a hospital bed dehydrated.
Having said that I saw them all 4 times in Detroit and they were amazing. Even in the daylight.

I can see how it wouldn't be their audience and a little bit alienating.

The audience loved them. The bands that actually played the second stage did not.
In fact talked a lot of shit about them behind their backs. That may have been one reason they didn't like the experience so much.
They were only on a small part of that Lollapalooza. Not the entire tour.

Ah right, understood! It would have been a hard enough experience even without other bands slagging you off. Good job the audience liked them then!
