At first I was shocked by how blatant of a rip off it is, but this morning I found this interview (which was also posted on Primal Scream's instagram account) where she acknowledges the similarities and got Bobby G's approval for the song: https://pitchfork.com/news/lorde-discus ... iew-watch/
I had never heard Primal Scream in my life. I’d been told to check them out. I wrote the song on the piano, and then we realized like, this is, this sounds a lot like “Loaded.” It’s one of those crazy things that like, they just were the spiritual forebears of the song. I reached out to Bobby [Gillespie], and he was so lovely about it. And he was like, You know, these things happen; you caught a vibe that we caught years ago. And he gave us his blessing. So let the record state “Loaded” is 100%, the original blueprint for this, but we arrived at it organically. And I'm glad we did.
In fairness, that riff, or variations of it, has been used so much (before and after Loaded). Still, i've not heard a version that i didn't like.
I get what you're saying about the Loaded similarity specifically though. Hopefully it sends a few young folks the Scream's way.
I like Lorde's song. And video.
Almost everything is "borrowed" these days anyway.
I'd much rather have that explosive Loaded ending in her song. It works.

Yeah, it's similar to "Loaded," but it's also similar to a hundred other songs. Others have been reminded of that one Beta Band song or the VU's "Oh, Sweet Nothin'".
To me, it instantly reminded me of the Verve's "One Day" (and it even borrows the notorious "cheeks like peaches" lyric of "Sit and Wonder").

Me too. It’s ace isn’t it. Perfect for the summery vibes round here. When it kicks in it’s actually awesome.
The video has a weird feel to it though. She’s like the leader of a cult or something.
But yeah it’s great. Maybe my favourite version of the ‘Loaded’ riff has to be this one - had Weatherall heard this at some point when he was remaking ‘I’m Losing More Than I’ll Ever have’?
