2. Good Times - single version.
3. Going down slow
4. 200 bars.
5. why don't you smile now.

2. transparent radiation
3. take me to the other side.
4. hypnotise
5. walking with jesus.

Oh what the hell.
Spacemen 3:
-Come Down Softly to My Soul (its got to be that eerie bass. And I'm a girl, so of course I must melt over anything even remotely sentimental...)
-Suicide
-Walkin' With Jesus
-Lord Can You Hear Me, particularly the latter half and the latter half's saxophone
Spiritualized:
-Cop Shoot Cop
-Shine a Light
-Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space
-Let it Flow

The trouble with choosing favorites from the Spacemen 3 catalogue is that, since their output isn't actually all that prodigious, with only three proper LPs (I don't count Recurring, primarily because I don't like it) there's not enough to sustain a list of, say, ten, without including a couple of also-rans in the lower positions. (Any group's 'best-of' list should ideally be as long as one of their albums, right?) On the other hand, anyone's list of five would be disfigured by the perenially obvious choices ("Take Me To the Other Side", "Walking With Jesus", "Lord Can You Hear Me", though one may bicker over versions) with room enough for only two personal choices (mine would be "Come Down Softly to My Soul" - kudos Lux - and "Amen", I guess).
With Spiritualized, it's easier, as there is more product and the product in question is longer, although I for one can't represent all five albums since at least one of them (let's agree) is bilge.
1. Lay Back In the Sun (LP version)
2. Shine a Light (Royal Albert Hall - indeed, Geoff)
3. The Slide Song
4. The Twelve Steps
5. I Want You (LP version)
If I had to choose a favorite from Amazing Grace it would be The Ballad of Richie Lee and might turn up in the lower reaches of a top ten.

That's utterly impossible, no way I could narrow down either to three. Without even thinking about it I'd say:
Sp3:
Rollercoaster (SOC version)
Take Me To The Other Side
Feelin' Just Fine (any one of a number of Jason slow song could replace this - Let Me Down..., So Hot, Billy Whizz etc)
Spz:
LAGWAFIS
Shine A Light
Don't Just Do Something
To neglect Pure Phase though is criminal.
Geoff, have you got the Glasto 92 version of Shine A Light? That is absolutely monumental too, sounds like a concorde taking off during the middle noise part...

we are here
on the verge of perishing;
those who do,
their quarrels are stilled.

Ode to Street Hassle (FP version)
OD Catastrophe
Spiritualized:
Feel So Sad (Medication 12" B-side)
Take Your Time (any version)
Born Never Asked

Spiritualized: Step into the breeze
Symphony space
Smiles (Medication promo single version)
Let it Flow (LP version)
Electric Mainline (Live @ RFH/1.4.98)
For me, these tunes are the essence of what's best about this band we love.
Have to think about the Sp3 list a bit later on, as i'm in a hurry...
