This week I have mostly been listening to...

Psysex - Come In Peace
Kristen Hersh - Hips and Makers
Infected Mushroom - Converting Vegetarians
Spiritualized - Amazing Grace
Godspeed You Black Emperor - F#A# Infinity
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots

And a bit of dirty techstep Drum n' Bass that me and my friend Dan mixed ages ago the morning after a night out. Very badly indeed.

And I'm going to add Chris Liberator 'Trust the DJ CL03'. Magnum Force 'Blow the Bloody Doors Off". Brilliant!

Kill ah?

you've brought up several good points.

what are they?

THE DISTILLERS is the only CD I have bought since "AMAZING POOP" i am kinda gun shy now after JASON's latest masterpiece robbed me of $15.

but "CORAL FANG" is 500 better than AP.

have you heard the record? give it a chance KILLER!

regards.

STONER ROCK, INDIE ROCK, & SPACEROCK can FUCK OFF!

HILLBILLY ACID JAZZ in the new PUNK.

Excellent ~ Hermann & Kleinne!!!! Must admit I don't really care much for The Kills, though. Here are 10 of my current favs:

SFA ~ Phantom Power (so badass)
Mogwai ~ Happy Songs For Happy People
Morrissey ~ Vauxhall & I
Primal Scream ~ XTRMNTR (this album fucking rules)
The Auteurs ~ How I Learned To Love The Bootboys (ANYBODY????)
David Bowie ~ Aladdin Sane
Aphex Twin ~ Richard D. James Album (electronic milestone)
Neil Young ~ On The Beach (just reissued on cd - killer)
Twilight Singers ~ Blackberry Belle (FANTASTIC TITLE!!!)
Air ~ Talkie Walkie (ummm ... it leaked, but I'll buy it when it comes out)

AC/DC "Powerage" (No.1 album for the car)
MOGWAI "Happy Songs..." (got it for Xmas, so still fresh)
TOWNES VAN ZANDT "Delta Momma Blues" (*sniff*)
BERT KAEMPFERT - compilation from charity shop. Had to get it for Swinging Safari, which is being used on the ingdirect.co.uk TV adverts and was also played incessantly on the coach on our school trip to Paris in 1981 and now I can't get it out of my head, so I'm hoping that its current rotation on the Starfish gramophone will lead to some kind of cathartic closure.
BUFFALO TOM "Let Me Come Over"
THE BELLRAYS "Red, White and Black"

Am currently listening to:

Lenny Cohen - Songs of Love and Hate
Van Morrison - Beautiful Vision (sounds strangely like the quieter parts of Pure Phase!)
Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat
The Carter Family - Can the Circle Be Unbroken? (Columbia sessions)

erm...(confused by all the random "quote" marks appearing in the composition box...)...you rumbled me $26: that isn't even a list of LP's I own, never mind like (well, I own the Muppets one and the Dead Kennedy's one...and would make houseroom for the Abba). I was ragging you all. I am unfortunately responsible for the Texas "careful what you wish for" thing: I wished they would go away, but forgot to wish that they would stay away. There is no "serious" emoticon.

I REALLY like the Jacob's Mouse, High Strung's lp, the Sweetheart of the Rodeo, Songs for the Deaf, and this compilation Mrs WillThisDo? found in HMV of 1940's Rock and Roll, called "Savoy Boogie Stomp"

Every so often the big shops have a sale where you can get 3 CDs for £20 and quite often they include the Trojan box sets in the deal.
Last year I picked up nine Trojan boxes (ska, rocksteady, instrumentals etc). Some cracking stuff on them.

What I is listening to at the moment;

1. Sonic Boom and Spectrum - What Came Before After (can't stop singing California Lullaby!)
2. Sonic Boom - Spectrum ( I have played this album at least twice a month since it came out over 13 years ago)
3. Old Dirty Bastard - Nigga Please! (top album feat. Kelis, Chris Rock and more. Produced by Neptunes)
4. The Neptunes - Clones (really good mix album)

Starfish, I bought Trojan Dub Singles (Limited Edition) and really liked it. Any specific recommendations from Trojan box sets? One of my fave reggae/roots albums is the wonderful Joe Gibbs Productions.

As regards What Came Before After. How is it different to Highs, Lows and Heavenly Lows ?

Ol' Dirty Bastard... I love '36 CHAMBERS - The Dirty Version' too.
'Brooklyn Zoo II... thats ace for a night out!
ODB for President!

I think though that 'NIGGA PLEASE!'s best tracks may be produced by The RZA...

I would happily reccomend either the UPSETTER or SINGLES Trojan box sets... especially The Upsetter's...

Also reccomend the following

ART ENSEMBLE OF CHICAGO - Americans Swinging In Paris ('69/'70)
TRICKY - Angels With Dirty Faces
REV. CHARLIE JACKSON - God's Got It
CHAMBER BROTHERS - Anthology
GRAHAM CENTRAL STATION - Hair
PRINCE & The REVOLUTION - Parade

Disappointment?

DJ DANGER MOUSE - The Grey Album... expected this to be awesome but sadly is very unimaginative... at the very least several Beatles tracks could have been spliced together... as opposed to whats actually been done here. It sounds pretty lazy, reeks of novelty and sounds exactly like a guy, a sampler and two records... and Jay Z ain't exactly the hottest MC (even though he thinks he is)...

...mind you he probably enjoys 'Crazy Love' with Beyonce.... (grudging) respect due..... :!:

too lazy to make a whole list tonight...but i am in love with the Flaming Lips "In a Priest Driven Ambulance"...back before they were all critically acclaimed or even particularly good...just really loud, with the Oklahoma twang still very present, and lots of songs about Jesus. Super fun for springtime. Also Kula Shaker and Guided by Voices "Mag Earwig". Black Grape. Bright big shiny colorful songs for the return of the sun and the ducks.

tremendous list my friend, have you heard vintage by michael bolton yet?

well i have, my sister bought my mum that very c.d. for mother's day, and kunto here had to sit and listen to it 3 times. in a row.

i'd rather let midgets use my arse as a dartboard than go thru that again.

Would probably be less painful actually bein shafted by Mr Bolten. 3 times in a row. The words head and oven seem to become oh so comforting

No order here, just good music.

1. Squarepusher - Ultravisitor (his best, an incredible montage of different influences, a work by a seemingly schizophrenic man, trying to get all his influences onto one album)

2. Fennesz - Venice (The new one by Christian Fennesz on Touch. Sublime. If beach boys and pansonic would collaborate, this record would be the outcome.)

3. Mercury Rev - Deserter's songs (Better than All is dream, haven't made my mind up yet about Yrself is steam.)

4. Bernard Herrmann/Nino Rota/Ennio Morricone - works (These men are the holy trinity, when it comes to film scores. Been listening to Herrmann's work on Hitch's films, Rota's score for 8½ and La Strada and Morricone's contribution to spaghetti western films.)

5. Ligeti/Stockhausen - Works (Those who know, know. The gods of contemporary/avantgarde classical music.)

6. Kingston Wall - Trilogy (Comprises of I, II and Trilogy) [Fantastic psychedelic rock, with a heavy Hendrix influence. No wonder they're called a musician's band. The musicianship in this band is otherworldy. Skilled is not enough a word to describe their playing. Lead singer Pete Walli commited suicide by jumping from the tower of a church in central Helsinki. Legendarily sad story. These records were originally released 92-94. Write me if interested.

Yeah, I just got "6." It's so bizarre, but I like it quite a bit. I haven't heard anything by Rune Grammofon ... can you suggest an album?

Ok, just joined today, so I thought replying to this post would serve as an appropriate introduction. In no order of goodness, top 10:

Joan of Arc "Live in Chicago, 1999"
Yo La Tengo "I Can Feel The Heart Beating As One"
Pink Floyd "The Wall"
Nick Drake "Way To Blue"
Paul Simon "Graceland"
Tom Waits "Alice"
Angelo Badalementi "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me"
Papa M "Live From A Shark Cage"
Cat Stevens "Teaser And The Firecat"
Julee Cruise "Floating Into The Night"

All right, this of course, is for now.
