Songs with strings

Post by simonkeeping »

Im making a compilation up for my girlfriend and I want to add a tune with some sweeping strings (similar to History by the Verve). Any suggestions?
Plus I want an excuse to spend some money as Ive just been paid.

Mary Love 'Baby, I'll Come". Big sweeping strings, it's a soul song from the 60's, I think.

off the top of my head, etc etc.

patsy cline - sweet dreams (of you)
curtis mayfield - beautiful brother of mine, and the last minute of right on for the darkness
arvo part - cantus in memory of benjamin britten
serge gainsbourg - bonnie and clyde (a different kind of strings, but great all the same)
scott walker - little things
low - because you stood still (i think it's just a cello, but ... lovely)

ebbrace, though. they're the definition of a group who uses strings to fill out their dull sound. wil malone's soul can be bought.

the strings on lee hazlewood's stuff are amazing, i think billy strange? arranged them. your sweet love should definitely be on there, and maybe some of the lee n nancy stuff like arkansas coal.

"There is a light that never goes out" The Smiths
"Lucky Man" The Verve

Both are great songs.
