John Phillips
Does anyone out there in internet land own 'John the wolf king of LA"? From what i've read its a genius album, Country blues sound documenting his slide into serious drug addiction. Sounds quite heavy but the tunes are supposed to be amazing. Be interested if anyones heard it and what they think as Im currently a little short of the asking price on amazon....

I got a vinyl copy of John The Wolfking of LA about a year ago and it instantly became one of my top ten favourite records. Blissed out, wasted country soul music. His backing band contains pretty much everybody who played with Elvis during his late 60s Memphis period. It's up there with No Other by Gene Clark and I'm totally mistified to why its never been released on CD. And yes, Bobby Gillespie is right about Dylan ripping of the front cover for Desire.

Actually, it was released on cd as I have a copy and I agree with you, I love this album. After seeing Air with an Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl in 2004, a friend and I whilst under sedation drove up Laurel Canyon and west down Mullholland while listing to this album. It is gorgeous. I like how in Dig when Anton goes to the Dandy Warhols CMJ show on rollerskates he sports a John Wolfking of LA furry hat.

These people are still listing it for sale at £10.99!

I've put an order in put don't hold much hope of ever seeing a copy.
If you go onto the product page they have a clip of all the tracks on the album, which I guess at least gives you a taste.
Pay, Pack & Follow sounds interesting too, has backing vocals by Mick Jagger plus Mick Taylor, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood playing on it, any one heard it?

found it on rapidshare! just click on the blue Free button and you can download it as a .rar file.
Whatever that means.
But I managed to download a shareware .rar player (at rarlab.com) to extract the files and then save them as normal wma's.
Whatever that means, also. (Ever get the feeling you're dabbling in things you just weren't meant to get involved with?)
Anyway, it's here... http://rapidshare.de/files/11155040/jtwkola.rar.html
