Real Complete Works B&P request

Post by Guest »

Would any kind soul in the States mind doing me a B&P of this set? I have a copy but it skips on almost every track.

Cheers,

Pat.

Real Complete Works request...

Post by captainbeyond »

I have made it a practice to let all my spiritualized catalog be available on soulseek, but I've taken it off for updating/verification. Lay Back In The Sun, the promo 4 song thing, is something i can't find for less than $40. Thus, I would like a copy of the Real Complete Works. I promise I'll burn copies and make it (permanently) available on SS... Give me a holler. Tx.

If any of you folks are capable of downloading through BitTorrent (and I don't know who isn't at this age), it is available in its entirety on OiNK.

well, this thing is 7 cds worth of righteousness. It was created along time ago on Chris Barrus's message board (he's a lurker around here and an amazing wealth of knowledge on Spz and S3) by some incredible people and was a collaborative effort. I originally distributed the cds on this board to 10 or 15 people and the cd tree was planted.

Long story short: I've really been blessed by the awesomeness of a lot of great people on this board and have had some beautiful music sent to me that I never would have heard or heard of if it wasn't for them (Jig, runcible, ro, Greeny, Starfish, ABN, everyone else on the comp trading thread). I've been looking for a way to pass it forward and it appears this may be it. When I get back from camping this weekend, I will burn 5 sets and post them. The first 5 who posted on this thread, just PM me your address and they are yours. Just be willing to burn and post them for others (free of charge) to keep the energy flowing. Cool?

When the 7CD set was being put together, it was pretty hard to find anything that was on it elsewhere. Now that we have CW1&2, it's not quite as hard. Would there not be a case for slimming it down? It would make it easier to copy and redistribute, and although no-one has been given record company hassle so far, would be slightly easier to justify.

Not that I'm volunteering...

Love,

Ian

On the work behind and within the Real Collected Works

Post by captainbeyond »

purespace, I really appreciate the work you did in getting this Real Complete Works out. I have bought so much stuff of Spiritualized over the years, the eps in cd and vinyl forms, and a lot of it has just disappeared over time. :(
Chris Barrus's site was fantastic! His discography is so helpful. You know, some people just don't understand why one person would be driven to collect EVERYTHING a band has ever done, and to duly and accurately itemize it. But WE know, in the case of Spiritualized. For instance, Lay Back In The sun is an unbelievable track in as it first appeared on the Electric Mainline EP. That whole EP is gotta be the best thing I ever heard in my life. So then I find out that there are all these other versions I've never heard... and that it would cost me $40 (now) to get 'em. Or Why Don't You Smile Now, an AMAZING tune, not being heard by ahyone except die hard fans for over 10 years. This happens all the time with Spiritualized releases... going out of print, and/or not appearing on the Collected Works.
So thanks for the help, and I will pay attention to this thread and help out peeps as they come along (after I get my version of the RCW). I'll be posting it to soulseek, BTW, unless we want it to stay more exclusive. After all, it's not hard for any struck fan to find this forum...

Why Don't You Smile Now is now available via CWs, yes. It was just out of print for 10 years or so before then. BUT, Lay Back In The Sun has at least 3 released alternate versions other than what can be found on CWI & II. For that matter, the Suicide/Spiritualized version of Rocket USA was released on a comp but not on CW, Step Into The Breeze Part II is not found on the CWs, none of the Anyway That You Want Me remixes are found on CW, etc. And that's just for openers.
I WILL buy the box set that actually includes ALL that stuff, put together by someone who knows Spiritualized really well, and I hope that Box Set will also include ALL those radio sessions, and the Friendly Fire and Blue On Blue material. In my opinion, Spiritualized is just that good, right up to the present with J's acoustic stuff...

Yeah, purespace, I believe, actually did the work on putting the Real CW 7CD together, with about 15 other people... Maybe he should tell us if its ok to put them up on more available torrents. I am going to put it up on soulseek, for instance, but I think separate them into folders for each release. Heck, its just fun for me, as I have always IMMENSELY enjoyed EVERY spiritualized release, EVERY version I've ever heard, haha...

I am back from the woods and the following folks will be receiving copies of the RCWs within the next few weeks: eeee22, cantona, rameses, captainbeyond and ro. Please contact them if you'd like copies.

I personally don't mind if these are torrented, just don't sell them or put them up on ebay.

Cheers.

I came up with the idea for the RCW set while I was working in a library. I had just gotten into Spiritualized big time and I think this was shortly after I paid way too much for Fucked Up Inside. I have a habit of getting into bands and then wanting everything they ever recorded, and in East Texas I had no chance of doing this with Spiritualized. I worked up a list of all the unreleased tracks from Chris Barrus's site and I think a few things were added and tweaked after I proposed the list. Then I added radio sessions from that bootleg that collected most of them to fill out the discs.

The funny part, and this is why I'm bothering to post this (not because I want to toot my own horn), is that if I remember correctly a call was put out for some of the rarer stuff. I couldn't actually make the CD's myself because I didn't have a lot of it which is why I wanted them so bad! Someone contacted me, I can't remember their name or email address or anything, and if I did remember I wouldn't say because they insisted on remaining anonymous. They supplied me with everything I didn't have. I guess I then passed the completed set or maybe just some of the rarer tracks on to someone else and they got the tree going.

So anonymous fellow, if you are around still, THANK YOU.

The track listing has "Volume 12 CD Sampler" as the source. Not sure which though.

And to be clear, it was not me who put the RCW together, I was a fortunate receiver of a set from the original tree on Chris Barrus's site (See flamingrev's post above). Just making sure credit is given where it's due, and a huge shout out to those passionate folks who did put this amazing set together!

For those that are getting the 5 sets here's the track listing again as I'm too lazy to print and send it out:

Hey gang, how about a supplement to the RCW? What has been released since this was compiled that isn't included on the complete works?

Some instrumentals? A live Rated X, the Yoko track, anything else?

Yousendit that stuff!

If the Silent Sound disc is out of print, I can post that later tonight.

I was thinking that an addendum CD with songs (not already included in the RCW) that Spiritualized covered and/or remix would be a great addition.

Off the top of my head:

Tied Up
Walking on Thin Ice
Camera
Sad Days Lonely Nights

...anything else?

The Spiritualized remix of a Dr John track - it appeared only on a free CD that came with NME, many moons ago?

Edit: this 1998 CD

Dr John - John Gris (J. Spaceman Mix) (5:21)

You could add the live Daniel Johnston covers cause they're not likely to be on the next album.

+ Hold On (Warchild mix)?

There was an absolutely incredible XFM session of Rated X that was on a cover cd of the short lived X-Ray magazine (that's a lot of X's!).

Would anyone be willing to upload this to MediaFire by any chance? I was going to grab it off Oink, but it got shut down before I did. If anyone does up it, sending a PM to me would be cool.

pbhilton, your discs are in the mail!...

Does anyone actually have the covers for these? And if so, could they be upped to mediafire or some such place?...

Peace.

Off the top of my head:

Tied Up
Walking on Thin Ice
Camera
Sad Days Lonely Nights

...anything else?
Besides the stuff listed above, there are these out-of-print (I think) tracks around:

KFSD Radio Session Promo CDS (2002):
Stop Your Crying (Radio Session) [4:07]
Hold On (Radio Session) [3:10]

GLOBAL COMMUNICATION: Maiden Voyage CDEP (1994)
Maiden Voyage (Spiritualized Electric Mainline Mix) [6:50]

And, of course, Silent Sound...

Peace.

Hey

Something odd seems to have happened to my PMs - I've lost any past early October and, as my short term memory is shot, I can't remember who asked for a copy of RCW.

If anyone out there contacted me wanting a copy of RCW please accept my sincere apologies for the delay & could you please re send your address etc to me via PM.

love and peace

I promised i'd post the covers i made for these 7 discs a few months back, and i've just got my act together!

Please find the link below to the 7 covers in a single RAR file.

You should be able to crop the images and use them in Nero or some other cover design app.

Real Complete Works covers

Nothing too spectacular, but they do the job!

Hello,

If there's any soul kind enough to be able to burn me a copy of the RCW, I'd be eternally grateful.
Many thanks if you can help me out as I'd love to hear this.

Daniel.

Just one comment - I got Lay Back in the Sun for under $5 recently, I got the Electric Mainline 12" for maybe $5, likely less. I have the RCW and never listen to them. It's much more enjoyable to try to find these releases yourself, most of them sound much better in their original formats.

Easy for you to say when you have the RCW... Sure, I have almost all the original 12", lots of cd singles and a number of promos and oddities....it's the Recurring demos and alternative mixes on cd 1 that are most interesting, which you don't tend to see on eBay.
