Hi

Will Carruthers here .
There is a little spiritualized news at the end of this message .

We have made a new lp . It's called "Home improvement for condemned buildings "
Mark Refoy and Kevin Cowen played guitar on it and Jonny Mattock played the drums.

It was recorded during the summer of 2005 in a soon to be demolished old office block in Leicester .
It's got ten songs on it and if you want to hear some of them please try out our new website
at http://www.willcarruthers.com .You will need flash installed to view it .
You will find some free mp3 downloads and some audio streams .
The album is available to buy through the website at this address .

http://freelove.moonfruit.com/goshopping

The first five hundred are numbered , signed and painted and decorated by my own fair hands.

We also have the psi love you album,(that I played bass on), and some rather nice handmade posters for sale .

If you go to this address

http://www.apolloaudio.com/26

You will find an online stream of four tracks from the album , plus a new version of van fever incident ...(now with added Mark Refoy)
This ep is available as a paid download for the price of four dollars .

thanks

ps ...also, possibly of interest to fans of Lazer guided melodies . Somebody kindly sent me fifty copies of a spiritualized bootleg , containing unreleased versions of songs ,, outtakes , rehearsals and a peel session from the Lazer guided melodies lineup.
There is some great stuff on here you won't have heard before .
If you would like more details please send an e-mail to frndly_fr@yahoo.co.uk.

-- willcarruthers (wil...), April 2nd, 2006.

I'm glad this is april 2nd otherwise I would've thought this was an april fools.
Email on its way.

-- Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (pfunkbo...), April 2nd, 2006.

Got a reply

This bootleg is called Friendly fire .
It features outtakes , rehearsals and the peel session from the Lazer guided melodies lineup.

The full tracklisting is :

OUTTAKES

I want you ////instrumental version , unreleased variant of glides and chimes .

shine a light ///very different from the album version ,diff vocals , diff ,mix ..unreleased

smile ///radically different , longer version ..unreleased

I want you ////twelve inch, unreleased instrumental version

REHEARSALS

these are from a good quality cassette recording of a Spiritualized rehearsal at Jason's flat in Rugby. They have been cleaned up and mastered and the sound is powerful if not totally hi-fi.

why don't you smile
you know it's true
amen
angel sigh
If I were with her now
run

PEEL SESSIONS:
Already released,but a nice little bonus .

Angel sigh
feel so sad
smile

there is a secret track at the end of smile ...which seems to be someone messing about with a sampler while somebody sings the bare necessities from the Jungle book in the background .
Not essential Spiritualized , but quite entertaining .

The cd's are professionally made, with nice artwork and quality printing .
We have very few of these .
We are putting together a list of people who want one. If you definitely want to buy this, reply to this e-mail address (frndly_fr@yahoo.co.uk.) stating how many you want .
When they are ready to be sent out ,(about three weeks)
you will be notified by e-mail and told how to pay for them .

They will be 12 pounds each including postage and packing.
You will need some sort of debit /credit card .
Included is an attachment showing some of the artwork .
thanks

change "rarities" to "bootlegs" instead.

12 pounds is a ripoff for a bootleg, as bad as the bootleggers themselves.

I'm astonished you can think that £12 is a rip off for that.

Once someone gets a copy of this, I'm sure the bootleg will soon be "liberated" for the masses.

Still, pretty exciting to hear about this - the first-ever Spiritualized studio-outtakes / rehearsals to appear?

I, too agree that 12 pounds is not excessive for something like this. C'mon, out-takes from the Lazr Guided Melody sessions ! The amount also includes shipping/handling. I'll take my chance on this and say it'll be better than the Guitar Loops.

i'd gladly pay 12 pounds for this with no hesitation.
but i'm on the other side of the Atlantic... Chicago
to be exact, so... i'd have to pay 20+ US Dollars
for the cd. which i just can't afford right now.

if anyone would be so kind to send me a copy via
yousendit.com when they get a chance, i would be
forever grateful.

i guess that's my beef, the exchange rate makes it costly, and really he's just re-selling a bootleg. i guess it's like Zappa's 'Beat the Boots' in a way.

so really, my only complaint is price, not content. ;)

speaking of which, i wonder when my discs are gonna arrive from PK. (how the blues...) i guess that was a $40 "donation," huh? i should have trusted my instincts and kept my money.

There's something on PK's website explaining that he's rather tied up at the moment http://www.sonic-boom.info/news.php

I've not heard back about Friendly Fire yet either, but the message from Will appears to suggest that emails may not be sent until the discs are ready (3 weeks?) In any case, I hope to goodness that I get one.

I hope I'm not too late for this!
For 'rarities' I read in-between the lines, with my own apparently damaged thought process, as chairs and seats and stuff from gigs. Maybe a speaker, or something Will may have pilfered over the years from photo-shoots. I thought pft who wants that! Finally looked at the thread. WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING! I kept raising an eyebrow at the absurdity of someone wanting a chair or something like that...
:? I think I should take it easy for a while. Maybe call the doctor...

Maybe just a rest on Easter weekend. Cup of coco, nothing to heavy... :(

(I'm even beggining to want this fictitious chair now!)

duppyconquerer the drugs are coming down ...

same theme as before with ' How the Blues Should Turn Out ' by PK. it's all relative to how much you want to spend for something like this. is it worth 12 pounds to you or would you rather spend it on a nice dinner or shoes for your kids ? up to you ...

It's mad when you think about the prices of things. A record you can have for ever can cost 10-15 quid. But a piece of meat for two people's dinner can be a fiver, and you eat that in a few minutes. A pint down south costs a fiver! Two of them is a record, or two pieces of meat. A meal for two when out can easy be forty quid, and there's nothing you can do about it if it's crap, apart from run out. You can take a record back, swap it, or sell it on ebay. The general price for DVDs is way too much as I don't repeat-watch often. I don't know where I'm going with this...

He said I could have the first copy. I'd reccomend checking out his new band the freelovebabies on MySpace if you really want a copy. Purchasing their album may get you a better deal on the bootleg. Will is a really great person, definately not ripping anyone off.

Agreed! It's been in my player since it arrived. And if you purchase HI for CB at the same time as the Spz cd, Willie takes 3 pounds off the price of the Spz cd. Willie RULES. And his shipping is so fast that you will have the cds before you even pay for them. BIG love to Willie B.

Man, LGM outtakes. This is pretty fucking exciting.... I ordered a copy of the new Freelovebabies as well. I'm not expecting much, simply because offshoots of bands that I like tend to be dissapointing. But Will's stuff look's interesting, especially in the sense that he's not marketing it as "from the fucked up children of Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized, more drug anthems for the disaffected" or anything. Mainly I'm buying it as a way of saying "thanks" for LGM. I know he played a big part in that, so he deserves some $$$.

And Spiritualized doing "Amen." So do we reckon that's Spacemen 3's "Amen," aka "Hey Man?" Or something new? That seems like an odd song to revive...

Willie's faster than lightning service strikes again!

Just dropped through my letterbox this morning and is pouring outta my speakers this second. It's fucking amazing - that's all there is to say.

The rehearsal of Amen is pretty special. What a line-up it was back then.

Off work today so it's gonna be on repeat for quite a while.

yah! me too.
i got to order one and am watching the mailbox for it and HIFCB.

i'm confused, though:
there are "fifty copies" of a bootleg.
is that an official release?
there are more than fifty spiritualized fans who would pay for this.
how come more weren't made?
everything ends up online these days.
please explain, i'm naive.

and thank you, Will.

Looks like this eBay buyer should have tried Sister Ray first:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %3AIT&rd=1

I see the seller has another copy for sale too.

I'm just glad I managed to get a copy from Will. At least I know I'm contributing to his hard graft. It's the least we owe him - especially when you listen to the music on this release.

If he wanted to cash in, he could have asked for double the price - I'm sure a lot of us would have paid. He hasn't ripped anyone off, yet he's had his efforts thrown back in his face.

I think it's shameful of the thoughtless idiot who put this on torrent on the day of release. Everything's so fucking disposable these days.

Surely it's mainly Spaceman being ripped off here since it's his tunes being re-sold without any part of the profit going to him?!!
(Not that I begrudge Will's extra income in any way- his gorgeous playing certainly deserves him benefiting from it).

Has anyone categorically been told there aren't any more left? Fired off an email a few days ago and haven't heard back yet. Not holding out much hope, though. Maybe this kind benefactor has more to put out there.

If not, then I can't see what the big deal is with the electronic distribution. Firstly, (aside from the last three tracks, which aren't even being distributed) this isn't material available officially anywhere else. Secondly, 50 is a piddling number of copies, especially given the size of the fanbase. There are going to be a lot of very disappointed punters clamouring to get their hands on this stuff in any shape or form.

I'd absolutely love to have one of the pressed copies (digital format is purely the last resort), but if that's not possible, well...

Included is an attachment showing some of the artwork .
thanks

I just got mine today and I'm loving it. Thanks Will. I like the alternate takes of "I Want You". Glides and Chimes (Feel So Sad) was always a fave of mine, so I like the take on "I Want You". The rehersals remind me alot of the 'Bedford 1990' Live performance.

Got my copy from Will last week.
I gotta say that this disk is pretty damn sweet.
How can you go wrong with alternate material from the LGM era....???
Funny how I now have Will's autograph on the package when he signed it over for International mail at the Post Office.

Question......................

On the 1st post of this thread, it gives the tracklisting and summary for each song.
Next to Shine a Light, it says 'with alternate lyrics.'
Anyone able to decifer what lyrics are different on this from the album version?

Also........
I emailed Will to express my gratitude after listening to this.
He emailed me back the same day to thank me for buying it and a few of his thoughts about what was on it.
Definately a stand-up guy in my book.

Much thanks Will.
Rock on.
