night time music (influenced by a post by northernsoul)

what artists would you say are good for night time?

i personaly love things like richard hawley or roy orbison. Greig is also great to listen to at night.
'raging and weeping are left on the early road
now each in his holy hill
the glittering and hurting days are alomst done
then let us compare mythologies
i have learned my elaborate lie
of soaring crosses and poisened thorns'

Mazzy Star / Hope Sandoval, Slowdive, selected Aphex Twin, Beth Gibbons, Debussy, and that new Charlotte Gainsbourg record.

(plus a whole swag of Australian slowcore stuff that I won't bore people by revisiting yet again)
. . . heligoland . . .

Yeah, Roy's ballads are total 3am listening. Good call.

Wish Re-Evolution would drop by and tell us what he wanks himself to sleep to every night. "Face Value"? "Ten Summoner's Tales"? "OK Computer"?

Spiritualized is always some good night time music, of course! Other than that, there's a bunch of artists and albums that escape me right now.

'Sleepless' by Kate Rusby - nominated for a Mercury Music Prize (I think the year Gomez won) is a beautiful collection of traditional and original folk music, and anyone who's from/lived in/familiar with Sheffield or South Yorks will really appreciate the way she sings so clearly with such a distinct accent. Beautifully simple yet effective production means you can easily pick out each track in the mix on a revealing hifi, whilst still sounding like a thoroughly coherent final product; Kate Rusby is a great ambassador for contemporary folk music...and she's pretty damn fit as well, which helps...

I forgot a major night time feel band--Dirty Three! Especially "Ocean Songs", it's just so mellow and occasionally chaotic. Like Spiritualized, they're one of my all time favorites, and think that they share a bit of the same spirit, if not always in the sonic department.
