I love Syd's solo stuff - more 'Madcap Laughs' than 'Barrett' although both are wonderful. Sure I find some of the outtake moments funny, when Syd is rambling and trying to get the thing together, but I think that's why they were included. All reports I've encountered of those sessions are similar. He was obviously totally impossible to work with on those albums, constantly changing arrangements, tunes, lyrics... everything it seems. But the genius shines through, the songs are charming, witty and, somewhat bizarrely, they haven't dated at all. And when we're talking ditties like 'Here I Go' (which must rate amongst my all time favourite songs) I find it impossible not to smile while listening.
But Led Zep. Well, that's another story and a few notches higher on the all time great list. Possibly notch number 11.

I'll throw my muso oar in here and say that the much rumoured Beatles/Barrett collaboration 'What's the new Mary Jane' is not anything of the sort.
It is in fact a Beatles track only - in the loosest sense, probably just John Lennon, although I believe at one point it was touted as a b-side, then a Plastic Ono single...
...why do i know this stuff? Jeez...
EMI are putting out yet another anniversary edition of 'Piper at the gates of dawn' , 3 discs in total but no 'Scream Thy Last Scream'/'Vegetable Man' on there. WHY NOT???
