Ultimate dream Band line up

Post by simonkeeping »

Not really related to Spiritualized but entertaining none the less. Who would you have in youre dream band. Living or dead. Try and pick muscians who would work well together. its a tough call as theres infinate numbers of great muscians which id include but heres mine. for the moment anyway, may change it later.

Lead Guitarist - Jimi Hendrix
rhythm/Lead Guitarist - Ron Asherton (the Stooges)
Rhythm guitar/noise - Jim Ried (Jesus and the Mary Chain)
Acoustic Guitar - Marc Bolan
Bass Guitarist/Backing vocals - Paul McCartney
Lead Vocals - Iggy Pop
Lead Vocals - Elvis
Backing Vocals - James Brown (maybe, not too sure)
Drums - Keith Moon (from 1970)
Piano/keyboard/Sitar/cool hair - Brian Jones

Brass Section - Maceo Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Pharoh Sanders, John Entwhistle - Tuba

Produced by Lee Perry

Presley

Shields------Watts-------Vicious------McCartney

Gillespie--------Gallagher--------Manzarek------Hendrix

Barrett-------Marley

Simple as.

the big man in goal, solid back four (good links on the left into midfield, especially, Watts in the hole to cover for Vicious's surging runs), obvious mixture of discipline and creativity in midfield, and a strike partnership with goals written all over it.

Dunno there Sly, you might want the Christmas tree with wingbacks rather than a flat back four if young Sid is going to go AWOL. Also two bassists in your defence could be a recipe for disaster.
Gillespie flatters to deceive in my opinion - you'd be better off going for the real deal .. someone you can rely on like Iggy or Bon Scott. And the right wing is the last place you'd find gobby Bobby.

Dream line-ups never work. As Leggy said, it'll just be a wankathon. Or a sodothon.
New Race had a great line-up on paper in 1981. One Stooge (R Asheton), one MC5 (Thompson) and three Birdmen (Tek, Younger and Gilbert). Actually, they were pretty good, but the sum of parts is always going to have less value than the individual merits.

On at least one level this thread is ridiculous, because no matter how well the individuals in question would sound together there have been musicians lumped together here that would or could never possibly work together or even meet. But I'll play along. Here's a guitar-based five-piece.

Vocal - Marvin Gaye
Rhythm guitar & vocal - Joan Baez
Lead guitar - Clarence White
Percussion - Elvin Jones
Bass guitar - James Jamerson
Produced by Brian Wilson

My mention of Mr Jones above has me misty-eyed in light of his recent passing: a lovely man.

I've always liked her. It was her or Emmylou, but Joan is a better guitarist (listen!).

Amazingly I'm not forty yet. I wasn't even conceived when Joan cut her first album. It ain't me! And besides The Heads aren't really an area of research for me.

I think Emmylou's following amongst men is a bit healthier than Joan's for two or three reasons that haven't much to do with talent. I love her dearly, but Joan is certainly the stronger, more charismatic singer; but Emmylou's delivery (and look) is a bit sexier and a bit more vulnerable. As well Emmylou's ties to Gram make her all the more appealing to indie folksters and record-collecting Byrds fans like myself, to say nothing of romantics in light of all the slippin' around tunes on GP. I will say though that Emmylou's claims to folk/country legitimacy carried on a lot longer than Joan's; I'm disregarding most of her post-sixties output you see.

I'm going to post something awful.

Axl Rose - singer
Buddy Rich - drummer
James Hetfield (during his drunken days) - guitar
Sid Vicious - bass
GG Allin - drugs
Jason Pierce - Effects and guitar
Sonic Boom - Synthesizer
and produced by Phil Spector.

the trick is to lock them all in the studio with no way out (and though three of them are dead) i still think it'd be fun to see. if ANYTHING got recorded, that'd be fun.
actually, this is a terribly boring post -.-

or how about this.

Björk's kid,
Kim Gordon & Thurston Moore's kid,
Kurdt Cobain & Courtney Love's kid,
Eminem's kid,
Madonna's kid
Jason Pierce's kid,
Flea's kid,

...i guess they're all about the same age? I really didn't even know Jason had a kid until i read it here.

Hey, twentysix! You wanna know how I've been? Well, I've been bankbroken, I've been heartbroken, AND my cat just threw up INSIDE of my running shoes, but otherwise, I'm doing great! I still think The Warlocks' Phoenix Album is the best thing ever, and I've discovered The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and I still do housework to "Let It Come Down."

I miss this board a lot, but I just can't commit to it anymore. It's like a full-time commitment, seriously. But I poke my head in every now and then and you guys still got it. Keep up the good conversations and thanks for asking,

On Fire.

On Fire.
My cat threw up on a copy of 'in search of shroedinger's cat', which is about quantum physics (the cat reference being about a hypothetical experiment involving a cat in a box with poison... then waiting two weeks and asking if the cat is living or dead (opening the box releases the poison, instantly killing the cat)

I guess she wasn't too keen on that idea.

the first lines 'let's see how high we can fly' just put you in a great energy mood :D that and 'angeldust' by faith no more are great songs to clean to.

Man, I just popped in, to check out how all you long suffering Pierce fans are doing when I dig a real stone cold jive turkey! Man this 26 dollars dude be one pompous brother!? You dig!?
I quote "I'll play along" and the wonderfully straight-faced criticism of someone else's idea for a post as "ridiculous". You so square brother 26! I hate (actually I love) to be critical but you can't read something of such genuine, astronomical pomposity and not be at least mildly piqued.
Anyway, that aside any of you real groove funk magneteers be knowing of a Spiritualized DVD, video or anything with any footage of chicken wing Pierce on it? I'd be real interested cos I heard about a Bobby Gillespie narrated documentary on channel 4 a while back. I know this ain't the right place to post this but I'm crap with the machinations of the intermicronetweb and I just love that Pierce dude. Damn, Jason's mama so fat when she eat stuff she eat a lot of it! You dig! Nuzzle my puzzle! Peace out.

The Parsons

Alan Parsons - Project
Gene Parsons - B-bender
Gram Parsons - God's own singer
Tony Parsons - Freaky dancing
Nicholas Parsons - Lead guitar

It'd be like the Ramones, but they wouldn't have to change their names.

Debut album title: The Parsons

4th album title (after an acrimonious split): The Parsons Here Present.

Retrospective anthology/rarities collection title: Parson or Parsons Unknown (will contain a lost demo tape recorded by Nicholas Parsons, completed by the surviving Parsons and Jeff Lynne from ELO).

yeah paula abdul was a pretty good singer.

mariah carey is even better, i think, though....

lemme see...

Mariah Carey, singing
Dan Carey (from tool) on drums
(...drew carey and jim carey? (for comic relief/antics))

Jon Spencer on Bass,

Thurston Moore on Effects on the bass,

MCA from the beastie boys
and Beck on keyboards/synths

no guitar player needed. If there 'has' to be one, then Buzz Osbourne, from the Melvins. other than that, no guitar player.

someone should play flute, though, or clarinet, (both)
