If you could write the set list for a Spiritualized gig..

Post by ryansocash »

If you could write a 12 songs set for Spiritualized to play what would it be? Mine would go like this...

So Hot
Broken Heart
Don't just do Something
Borrowed your gun
I got a fire
Soul on fire
Rated X
Out of Sight
Take your time
Lord can you hear me?
Shine a light
I didn't mean to hurt you

When I win the lottery i'm gonna buy spiritualized and MAKE them play:

Smile / sway
Come together
Lay back in the sun
Shine a light
The slide song (pleasepleasepleaseplease)
Why don't you smile now
The individual
Take your time
Don't hold me close
The power and the glory
Cop shoot cop
Anyway that you want me

(an opening and closing of "oh happy day" doesn't count in the 12 right?)

12 songs? Easy:

C 523Hz
D 587Hz
E 659Hz
F 699Hz
G 784Hz
A 880Hz
Bb 932Hz
B 988Hz
C 1046Hz
D 1174Hz
E 1318Hz
F 1398Hz

Ok, just kidding. I didn't mean to Hertz you :P ...

I wouldn't complain at all about this setlist:

Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space
Sway
Let It Flow
Shine A Light
Medication
Electric Mainline
Out Of Sight
Going Down Slow
Won't Get To Heaven (The State I'm In)
Lay It Down Slow
Angel Sigh
Lord Can You Hear Me?

Peace.

A decent choice would be:

Hypnotized
If I Were With Her Now
Take Good Care Of It
Walkin' With Jesus
Shine A Light/Electric Mainline
Run
Baby I'm Just A Fool
Feeling Just Fine (Head Full of Shit)
Sway
These Blues
Things'll Never Be The Same
Smiles

I know many of these are old but then if it's me writing the set list then I'd go for the above.

I'm amazed that he's left Run out of the starting line up for... well, must be 12 years or so. That was a right thumper live. Same with Feeling Just Fine - that's the best live track I've ever seen them do (last heard maybe 16 years ago or more).

I thought Run was played on the Amazing Grace tour? I'm not sure though, I didn't see Spiritualized on that tour.

"Run" was actually played on the Fall 2003 tour of North America. And I was damn glad to hear it again! In fact, I almost added it to my setlist above, too. I was trying to add in a few of my more recent favourites but I think I'd rather hear your setlist :D ...

Peace.

I've seen a show on every UK tour Spiritualized have ever done apart from the Stereolab tour (in about 1994?) which missed out London - and I'm sure they haven't played Run for donkeys years. Not fair that it reached the States as when it flew it was incredible!

I think it would be incredible if Spiritualized did one of those show where they play one of their lps from beginning to end.
LGM would be my first choice
PP would be second

They also played it in Dublin on the AG tour but it was pretty lame.
Certainly liking Runcibles set list the most so far!

I`d love to hear more of the pure phase sound throughout the gigs these days

I don`t understand why so little new material is played - almost as little as on the Let it come down tour !

I once had Cop shoot cop as the opener - incredibly cool choice for an opener

I`d want Electric mainline back o the setlist - 10 inutes plus, please

Goodnight goodnight is a must for the last song, isn`t it ?

I`d love to hear some songs which were never played live as far as I`m concerned :

all of my thoughts
stay with me
symphony space
the power and the glory

I`d love to see Jason is a space suit

I`d love to see him play the organ, as he is always credit on the organ in the sleeves

Pure phase vs. Rated X would be nice

finally, some vintage keys on stage would be nice again... get the farfisas and theremins out again !

welcome dikky

safesurfer, i think power and the glory was played as an intro to On Fire once.

My dream gig would have the full Spz ensemble, horns, strings, choir, going at it hammer and tongs. I'm not gonna even start on the lineup coz that old debate would rage all day.

You Lie You Cheat
Shine A Light> Born Never Asked> Electric Mainline (yes this counts as one song!!)
The Slide Song
Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating in space
Don't Just Do Something (please please please Jason!)
Lay Back In The Sun
Angel Sigh
The Straight and the Narrow
Baby I'm Just A Fool
Hold On
Broken Heart
Take Me To The Other Side

Don't Just Do Something
Stay With Me
Sway

and an encore of Oh Happy Day would be nice too...

And "All Of My Thoughts" was played on part of the LAGWAFIS tour, at least in North America...

Peace.

You Lie You Cheat
Lay Back in the Sun
(the slow, building live version circa 95)
Out of Sight
200 Bars (with the counting perhaps voiced by an appropriate celebrity such as Carol Vorderman)
The Straight and The Narrow
Baby I'm Just A Fool
Run
These Blues
(with harmonica like Sean Cook used to play)
Electricity
(a short break here with few mins of Pure Phase tones would be good...plus gives folks in need the chance to pop to the loo...maybe some sort of signage would be helpful, along the lines of Ladies and Gentleman you can go for a slash)
Medication
Shine a Light
Take Your Time
Cheapster

And by the end I'd like my mind to be properly fucked from the strobes/decent light show in general, used to compliment and enhance this setlist, with the more energetic numbers getting an appropriate mind-bending accompaniment, rather than the rather tame lights seen at Koko.

...and preferably no modern twist on Lord Can You Hear Me, nor any attempt at Walking With Jesus that involves it opening with the familiar, yet annoying 2-chord riff, played on a guitar that sounds like it was smashed-up at the end of a Who gig 40 years ago, hasn't had it's strings changed since, and is being amplified via the radio from a 1980 Talbot Samba. However opening with the Farfisa or a Continental would be a nice return, and quite acceptable.
I'm like Evel Knievel, I get paid for the attempt. I didn't promise this shit would be good!

Hell yeah, they played Run for most of the AG shows. I was there and even my friend Nate remarked about how he was glad to see it back in rotation...

Intro of Symphony Space (not counting this as 1 of the 12 songs)

Take Good Care Of It
Good Times
Walkin With Jesus (FUI style)
Sway
I Think I'm In Love
Angel Sigh
Medication
Take Your Time
Come Together
Things'll Never Be The Same (circa '93)
Shine A Light/ Clear Mainline (the perfect melding of Clear Rush and Electric Mainline)
Smiles (FUI version)

If i had to include a song from every album then there'd be room for:
Won't Get To Heaven...
12 Steps
Baby I'm Just A Fool

All performed under the retina frazzling visuals circa '91/'92.

Under no circumstances whatsoever could Oh Happy Day or Lord Let It Rain On Me be allowed. I do like the idea of Ms.Vorderman making an appearance though! Who knows Jason might end up running off with her although i suspect her heart will forever be Richards (Whiteleys not Ashcrofts).
