Mover is great. Especially live. I saw it 4 times in 5 days on the Lollapalooza second stage in the Detroit area. What was that? 1994? So that song is 14 years old. If only they released more songs like Mover.
There was a official UK promo video from a really early UK live show. It was incredible. Was it Wolverhampton maybe? Has that ever surfaced on DVD?

He really. Is. Not.

'He's not even the best singer in the Verve!'

I don't mean to be spiteful but to this day i'm still completely underwhelmed by Verve. 'The' or not. Sorry.

For me, 1997 was all about Vanishing Point and LAG. The other two...well, they're OK. I don't think I even own them anymore right enough.

As great a song as mover is doesn't it pique your interest that the somg is at least 14 years old?

could someone please upload it to yousendit for me?
interesting that they're rerecording such ancient material but not including it on the album.
if they're gonna make a habit of it i've got a few more requests

I am listening to a 1993 live show and it just dawned on me that as great a song the Bittersweet Symphony or better yet The Drugs Dont Work.
Word to Dickie- You aren't the Verve! Its not even Nick McCabe(though he is way more than Mr. Radley) as much as the sum of the parts when the giant Dickie ego was checked at the door.
I just dont think it will ever get back to that point. And those are words i'd love to eat.

Cover looks nice enough, I'll admit, but it's proggier than I'd like...I'd sort of prefer the band name and title not be there, dead center, in black print.

The b-sides from the A Northen Soul period are amazing too. 'Back On My Feet Again' is an immense track, as is 'Grey Skies'.

Alternate version? What's the story with that?

I've just got the full lengths and the first EP. Anyone willing to post a mess of these b-sides and alternates would gain my instant appreciation.

And you can't beat a deal like that.

You'd also be well advised to pick up No Come Down, which is widely available and cheap. It's not uniformly great, but it has lots of quality music, and all the key Storm In Heaven-era b-sides.

Honestly, if the guitars were higher in the mix and the stupid samples were removed, it would be an "OK" pop song.
It's nice to be able to hear a quality version of this track, at least in comparison the the myspace version. I'm enjoying it a lot more now. Seems like the myspace version was lacking a lot of low end.

Hearing the track properly, the vocal sample isn't as up front as it seems when listening via myspace. Simon's bassline is particularly heavy and a key ingredient in the mix. Perhaps it wasn't wise for the Verve to unleash the single via myspace. I'm still not blown away by it, but I like it a lot more.

Surprisingly, it's one of the rare occasions where a video has actually made me like the song a little bit more... Must be the arty, slo-mo and landscape shots! Plus, it's nice to see the band with their instruments!

Ahem, okay.

Some keys on my keyboard at home crapped out, now that I'm at work I can hopefully write something with a little more depth.

The song is only decent in relation to what you might hear on the radio. Like a lot of Urban Hymns, it sounds as though it's an Ashcroft solo thing. The music and the guitar-scapes is what I love about classic Verve, not Ashcroft in particular. As he comes to the fore and McCabe is pushed back or relegated to accessorizing Richard's ballads, it gets pretty boring for me.

The video is corny.

And what is up with the title/refrain, "love is noise?" Bleck.

Hate to belabor a comparison I've made many times, but compare this clip, which is excessive in every way, with the simple dignity of the one for "Soul On Fire".

Videos generally are a questionable proposition - at best they're amusing or provide some performance footage or tell a nice little story - but this one's particularly dull. I would have liked more of the glee club crowd footage.

its interesting how the Verve seem to arouse strong feelings both negative and positive.

Being a big fan, I'm kinda deflated by Love Is Noise too, but I will say that I saw the Glasto set on TV and thought it was brilliant. The rough edges may have been blunted a bit since the early days but i thought their performance had a grandeur and grace to it. I was quite moved actually. And Love Is Noise actually sounded pretty damn good too (with, yes, that big old light show- another thing Richard has stolen from J!). And I still think Sit and Wonder is brilliant, shouldn't divide fans like LiN does?

But then I saw them again at Rock Werchter festival last weekend and my concerns remain the same with the current live form- Nick is far, far too low in the mix. In certain moments the guitar cut through and it was awesome and I thought 'no band can touch this'- Life's An Ocean, The Rolling People. Other moments were just kinda 'okay'. Which isn't good enough frankly.

Heres what's gonna be on the DVD with the deluxe 'Forth':

http://www.play.com/Music/CD/4-/5986258 ... oduct.html

Also, apparantly the vinyl will have two bonus tracks- 'Mama Soul' and 'Muhammad Ali' (B sides to Love Is Noise?)

....*Sharp intake of breath....

Gesticulating to a crowd "What time is it?"...during one of the finest opening live songs I know...

tsk, tsk...I'm sorry people but this lot are done...all I'm hearing is a repeat to fade rythmn section and a play by numbers lead and as for the monkey with his jumbo pearl inlay...forget it.

I championed that doo-dah to the hilt...even through his frequently critiscised solo-stuff but asking a Scottish crowd what time is it (in such a blase manner) during This is Music is wrong...hope it's not just the UH crew in there...maybe you'll get rat-a-tat-tatted.

As for Sit n Wonder...what? It's worse than Love is Noise.

This lot are just getting by on previous and it's fucking embarrasing...and all they had to do was connect. Pish. Gash and bumblefcuk.
