I would nominate the entire Fun House album. All of Iggy's primal noises are amazing. "Down on the Street" has the "OooooOooH"s and "HEyy"s; "Loose" has more of the "AAAAAAYYYYYY"s; and "T.V. Eye" has the infamous "LOOOOOOOOOOOAOOOOOAOOOOOO......aaaaayyyyy.......wooo..".

...I also fancy a lot of Jon Spencer's "DO IT!"s and "BLUES EXPLOSION!"s. They are always entertaining.

Best scream has to be on Come to Daddy by the Aphex Twin, still scares the bejesus out of me. Nick Cave’s yowl at the beginning of Mutiny in Heaven sounds like my cat when I trod on her tail once. The aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh at the beginning of Love Me by The Cramps is a good one.

Best woohoos must be the Legendary Stardust Cowboy’s Paralyzed (awful really but very funny).

OMG!!! that video still scares the sweet shite of me!!! Chris Cunnigham wasn't it? Awwwwsome! Yep I'm voting for that one...and the lamest scream goes to Oasis on Fade In/Out
If it counts though J Spaceman at Glasto 2004...his whooo was really thoaty, I loved that! I was there!

I have to second "Fun House" TV Eye anyone?
Dave Wyndorf of Monster Magnet has the scream down anything from Superjudge " cage around the sun" sticks out for me.

No contest.

The first sounds to come from the continually inspiring "Now i got worry" Jon spencer blues explosion. Must have shred his vocal chords for weeks.

I don't know whether this counts but the vocals on The Sonics 'Cinderella' are a continuous distorted howl.

Robert Plant's 'WAAAY down inside' during Zep's 'Whole Lotta Love' always impresses me.

Finally Alan Vega's screaming during Suicide's 'Frankie Teardrop' is pretty scary.

Tom Waits "Shore Leave". Off the concert film "Big Time". I've watched this part of the concert with numerous people and when he starts screaming shoooooore leeeeeeeeave over and over, it is impossible not to pay attention. Makes some people laugh (they just dont get it) and other people cry (they get it).

This one is old, but I always thought Roger Waters' scream in Careful With That Axe Eugene (Ummagumma, Live) was effectively creepy.

Roger Water's scream on the live version of "Careful With That Axe, Eugene!" from the live side of Ummagumma is really terrifying... gives me goosebumps every time i hear it!

I agree with the Rob Plant one and most definately the Roger Waters one which was one heavy trip on mushrooms. And then Gillan on 'Child in Time' from the Live in Japan ('72) album and they were bigger than Zep that year. And Freddie Mercury at Live Aid.
What more can the heart of a man desire?

Not bad eh?!

So the Skunk on is Judah is it? Not just a dab hand on the ole geetar then. Doesn't he "sing" on fuck shit up too? I've not listened to them in aaaaaages, went a bit off the boil after ACME imho.

What about Justin Sullivan on Here Comes The War. The "sooooooon" of "put out the lights on the age of reasoooooon"? Not a populist scream sure, but gutteral, loud and certainly well meant.

:D yup.

Jon Spencer is great.. I've got to go back and listen to that, it's been a while.
something from Einsturzende Neubauten .. I cant remember the name but it's squeaking and sad.
Modlab, thanks for finding the "official" tally!

Gotta go along with Pink Floyd's Careful With That Axe Eugene by Roger Waters. It was somewhat reprised in the intro to Another Brick In The Wall with similar effect.

The, "ooh yeah" on the Sound of Confusion version Rollercoaster sounds cool/weird/crazy. For some reason, that whole record sounds like it is recorded on a slower speed or something. It makes it difficult for me to tell who is singing between Jason and Sonic.

It's all Jason as you probably eventually worked out! Took me a while actually.

thanks Runcible! That was my guess, as I don't see Jason yelling like that too much. Did they slow down the vocals on that record?

Check out Take A Trip by King Khan and His Shrines. Not a scream as such but belting it out singing with real rawness.

Hi Mark Refoy :D

wow, those Lennon tracks were played a lot in my house after Sept 11. strange memories.
and lots of good screaming and yelling, thanks guys, stuff I never heard of & stuff I haven't heard in a long time... I'm looking up what I don't know on youtube, which is great fun.
Ononist I couldn't find Take a Trip but I found Take My Lady to Dinner. I want a pair of gold poms poms now. f*ing awesome.
Runcible the Congos were just what i needed to hear today, with their lovely somniferous quasi-yodel.
there's more but I got to get going...

anyway, this sort of covers all the bases:

notice... @ the 1:41 mark

Public Enemy sampled that riff for their song
"She Watch Channel Zero". Slayer and P.E. were both
on Def Jam at the time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhHD1emjPTw

kind of ironic no? the message in that song...
being that Flavor Flav is a huge television star now.
hahaha.
