New single predictions?

Post by Sim »

A comment on another thread got me wondering what the next single from A&E might be.....

Anyone hazarding a guess? I've never been able to predict these but I'll have a go and plump for one of the rockers - either YLYC or Gotta Fire.

Can't say I'm holding out for anything surprising in the B-side stakes, but the thought that there may be a full-length (no fade-in, fade-out) version of Yeah Yeah to B-side a future release is tantalising.

There probably won't be another single.

I bet there will be another single. Certainly he recorded at least one or two b-sides.

Like I said - I'm crap at judging these things, so I was trying to go for the one I wouldn't normally pick in an attempt to get it right, if that makes any sense........

Also, other reason was that prior to the album release, on the occasions that I heard preview tracks on the radio, it was Soul on Fire and I Gotta Fire that were played - but that maybe because there was some 2 track sampler or similar issued to the radio stations?

I know that when AG came out, some copies had stickers on stating that it contained the singles She Kissed Me... and Cheapster way before the official release date for Cheapster - maybe there are copies of A&E with similar?

Also thought of Sweet Talk as it is, to my ears, probably the best track on the album. It really fits as an opener (bar harmony 1) with the bass line intro etc but for that same reason I couldn't imagine it as a stand-alone single.

I bet it's going to be "Death Take Your Fiddle". It seems to be the one that reviews talk about the most ( ).

I sort of doubt there will be another single, but you never know (there were three from Let it Come Down, after all).

What's wrong with "I Gotta Fire"? Too sexy, catchy and thrilling?

Gotta Fire, or Yeah, Yeah are the most logical choices.
although a lot of times J. seems to pick a single that goes
against what a single is typically meant for... which is to get
played on the radio so people actually go out and buy the album
if they liked what they heard.

that's probs what they still do but just they have a very select audience- snobery on either part maybe?

it'll be ylyc or sweet talk, if there's three singles then prob in that order.

i'd also have to disagree with the claims j. uses the less radio-friendly songs as singles: stop your crying & soul on fire? there's not much singlish stuff on Amazing Grace but certainly She Kissed Me is the most accessible cut. broken heart, come together short and direct.
i really didn't understand how Soul On Fire didn't become a summer anthem. but then i dunno if it was ever played on the radio outside that first airing on lane zowe.

Mr White wins the prize, next single will be a double A&E side of You Lie You Cheat / Sweet Talk. A video for YLYC has just been completed by infamous Brit artist Jake Chapman.

Oh, I hope there's going to a limited version (not) available on this site and then repressed by eBay.
It's nice to be liked,
But it's better by far to get paid.

Mmmmm...double A-side of 2 album tracks. Doesn't look like we're going to be getting too many decent b-sides with this album does it. Surely there must have been some decent songs left over from the A & E sessions that just didn't sit well with the album tracks? I guess the days have gone when bands release decent non-album stuff. I used to love it when bands did non-album singles or EP's (Stone Roses' Fool's Gold and the early Ride EP's spring to mind but its been years since I rushed out buying singles on release).

Anyway, moan over.

yeah, i collected all of the oasis singles, all the brmc singles, all the verve singles etc at inflated prices due to my relative youth i missed the intial relaease- £5 for a single- but with oasis the single and 3 usualy good bsides- their bsides are better than most bands albums- ah i miss those days- cannot recal the last single i bought- maybe ash or richard hawley...

What a serious bunch of moaning basterds we are! Think the double 7' sounds cool & with Jake Chapman for the video. At least J is still moving on. The recent album with the Sun City Girls, joining MC5/PS, a great new album(regardless of formats) & great gigs(Brighton was brilliant). Excited by the Suicide cover.
I watched both The Verve & JAMC at the roundhouse this year and both are finished! Both can occupy great gigs/records in my life earlier but both are going through the motions and have nothing less to offer. Sad but true, face reality, move on. Their transition from early gigs to now is desperate and both have run out of ideas. The Verve were astonishingly bad and after RA solo albums thats quite something. The JAMC sadly must be in it only for the money.
So...... lets celebrate Spz who, along with a precious few, continue to excite and offer something different! Maybe Songs in A & E is not a career defining moment and we all yearn nostalgically for LAGWAFIS or PP but it is still an album that will remain on my turntable for a long time!

Thanks

Another question: Japanese "belly band"? I'm thinking sumo wrestler right now...

I sincerely look forward to the unreleased versions that will make up the B-sides. These were fun to pick up and listen to in the past. I don't see any reason to buy a, "radio edit."

The distributor for the record store I work at has the street date as September 2nd. There is YLYC pts 1 and 2...two different items.

Bad news for us Americans: like Soul on Fire, it looks like this is going to be an import only...cost is about $7.50 each.

I don't mind paying 7 bucks for a double 7" with new stuff. Look how much it costs to get the Let if Flow singles now, and those are 1 10" and 3 CDS. The whole set would cost you a bit more than 7 bucks or 8 bucks even. Also, that seems like a good deal, considering the packaging and format.

Let me reiterate a few things (my initial wording was a bit confusing): YLYC pt. 1 is going to run about 10 bucks, YLYC pt 2 is going to run about 10 bucks too, and the cost that record stores will be paying is around $7.50. As of right now, I don't think pts 1 & 2 will come together.
