Hookworms - pearl mystic.

and very good it is too...not quite as intense as the live show, gets quite chilled but pretty smart.

Good psychedelic track. All things considered Beady Eye has been better than I expected.
I've continued listening to a lot of the Beady Eye album. At the time I assumed it was Oasis album retreads by numbers, but it's clear that Liam & co. had something to prove. There are a lot of really good songs and it thoroughly eclipses Noel's High Flying Birds album, which had a few highlights but lots of samey variations on old stuff. I quite liked the last couple of Oasis albums (which came back from the career low of Heathen Chemistry) but the best of this album feels fresher.

I've listened to the track "The Morning Son" a bunch of times. Really cool psychedelic track in the classic tradition. Andy Bell comes through. I initially totally dismissed Beady Eye, but there is some really surprisingly good rock n roll going on here.

i still feel like if you took the best of beady eye and noels album youd have a pretty damn good oasis album

which may not mean much depending on who you talk to but i was a fan.. i thought dig out your soul was their best album in years although it was very frontloaded

i should try and make a playlist.. although im not very good at sequencing

Both Dig Out Your Soul and Don't Believe The Truth had some really great stuff, and not exclusively from Noel. I made a playlist combining the best of the Beady Eye and Noel albums that comes out to a generous 74 minutes. Pound for pound this might have made the best Oasis album:

Everybody's On The Run (Noel)
Four Letter Word (Beady Eye)
Dream On (Noel)
Millionaire (Beady Eye)
If I Had A Gun (Noel)
The Roller (Beady Eye)
The Death of You and Me (Noel)
Beatles & Stones (Beady Eye)
(I Wanna Live In A Dream In My) Record Machine (Noel)
Wind Up Dream (Beady Eye)
AKA... What A Life! (Noel)
Bring The Light (Beady Eye)
Soldier Boys and Jesus Freaks (Noel)
For Anyone (Beady Eye)
AKA... Broken Arrow (Noel)
Wigwam (Beady Eye)
Stop The Clocks (Noel)
The Morning Son (Beady Eye)

I love it. It just rolls along in a Stonesy yet droney kind of way. Neil Haggerty makes an appearance on it as well.

They are playing Portland on Sat March 2. Based on the recommendation and description I would go down and check them out but we already have plans on Sat.

High Tide :)
with reference to the post quoted below I urge people to check this band out. this is superb stuff- dirty, distorted guitar, meshing with keening violin (low in the mix, but really adds something) and melodramatic vocals. it's kind of on the cusp between prog and psych. the dirty production gives it a psych tinge but the runs up and down the scales is proggish.
redcloud wrote:Heavy progressive psych rock that was best described by a critic as "a wall of sound with a mesh of violin". They featured Tony Hill from The Misunderstood and Simon House who later played with Hawkwind. That may give you some clues as to where it's going. Check your PM.....

Sunn O))) - Rehearsal Demo 11/11 LP

This wonderful slab of limited-edition vinyl landed on the doorstep this morning. I can't believe it's already coming on 4 years since Monoliths & Dimensions was released. So far this is classic Sunn O))) low-end sub-bass slomo riffing, and it's wonderful. Maximum volume yields maximum results.

so much stuff-

nirvana- 'roma'
tame impala- 'innerspeaker'
the kinks- 'kink-size'
sam cooke- 'shake'
brmc- 'howl'
beach house- all albums
nick cave- 'push the sky away'
and, of course- my bloody valentine- 'm b v'
and also this mix i made as an experiment- it's all stuff i was listening to when i lived in portland (2002-2005). kind of a depressing affair- i really didn't like it there, apparently... it's got calla, wilco, spoon, arab strap, cranes, vintage low, the kinks, hope sandoval and some spiritualized and spacemen 3.

Loop-Untitled (Edizione Limitata) , semi. official live release , some brutal versions, thats brutal as in killer, audience seems to be about 20 miles away but the performance showcases Loop as a punch in the face live act , oh for a wee shot of a time machine, :)

Been in the mood for some heavy rock the past couple days....pulled out these classics:

Sir Lord Baltimore - 'Kingdom Come' (1970). Was this the first album that the term "heavy metal" was used? According to Mike Saunders of Creem magazine it may be (although Lester had used the term back in '68 when writing about the MC5).

Buffalo - 'Volcanic Rock' (Australian 1973). Another early hard rock/proto-metal album but I also detect an early blueprint for grunge in its killer grooves. This one does not disappoint.

and also...

Psychic Ills - 'One Track Mind'. I like this. Very BJM'ish (Jeff Davies) and also reminds me of The Morning After Girls ('Shadows Evolve' era).

Orange Can - Entrance High Rise

What a great recommendation courtesy of Redcloud & Spzretent. Only got through the first side so far but like what I've heard. Can't believe that I never heard of these before this thread. Have to agree with the sound being a bit of a Beta/Floyd/Roses combination which is no bad thing in my book. Love the record starting from the middle too. 8)

Yep. Glad they are finally being discovered by others. They really are a treat. I put on 'Home Burns' last night and every time I hear 'Down Where She Lays' it sounds like an outtake from "Animals".

Recently I've heard a lot of early Soundgarden coming from my son's room. As mentioned in a previous post...it made me go down and pull out Buffalo's 'Volcanic Rock' album from '73. I played that album in its entirety for my son who really liked it. You can definitely hear its influence on early Soundgarden. This is such a killer album that rocks from start to finish.

This is every bit as good as people are saying. Another great find thanks to the recommendations on this forum and a rival to Hookworms for album of the year. Within seconds of pressing play that vibe had me hooked. Loads of it sounds so dirty and the gargled-gravel vocals add to it. Absolutely outstanding.

What a corker of an album. Only problem is that I cant listen to this at full blast at the moment though as Mrs Shines and baby Dylan are both upstairs asleep and I have to listen out for him on the baby monitor. Still sounds amazing though and am listening to this while watching the Spurs v Inter game with the sound off. Happy days 8)

I listened to this yesterday on my way to work and again last night (in between a Ten Years After session). I already said this to runcible but there are some great guitar jams on this one. Singing wise I prefer his Jim Morrison voice more than the gravelly vocals. It also reminds me of the George Brigman album - 'Jungle Rot'. Anybody on here know that record? Man, that's a methed up, Stooges'esque/trailer trash, poor white boy, mess of a garage punk album. Very interesting and well worth hearing. I reckon a lot on here would dig it too. Originals are nearly impossible to find by it was officially reissued by Anopheles Records. I know Karl behind that label. We used to trade music "back in the day" and he has a good label that are putting out excellent products. Anyway, it's more snotty than Stooges and possibly more messed up in total teenage rebellion and dysfunction. It's the sound of waste bags sniffing glue, for sure:

Initial impressions are like you say, the sound of a band very much hitting their stride and all coming together. Thought it was going to be much rockier overall, but there are some great acoustic tracks in there too (reminds me a lot of Master's Apprentice too). More mature sound than i was expecting. I found that Live At The Fillmore East album good, but sounding rather weak from a song perspective. I'll be giving this a listen over the weekend so i'll get back to you once i've given it proper attention.

Yes, their early work was essentially blues staples that lacked creativity. But, they finally started to hit their peak with these three albums ('Ssssh' really kick started it all).

Listening to them has made me pull out some early Fleetwood Mac too, which I have queued for this evening:

'Then Play On'
'Bare Trees'
'Kiln House'
'Future Games'

Currently listening to a joint album of:

Alvin Lee & Mylon Lefevre - 'On The Road To Freedom'.

This too is a great album as with Jerry Garcia's solo work he seems to be able to leave the Ten Years After moniker behind and just play, sing and have fun. RIP Alvin.

Its been amazingly spring like the past week. Gorgeous sun....high 50's/low 60's. Got the windows open to allow for fresh air to circulate through the house and enjoy it while we can.

Fleetwood Mac's - "Future Games" is on loud. No Green or Spencer but Kirwan and Welch help bring a laid back west coast groove to this album that sounds perfect on a day like today.

I just mowed the lawn, raked, swept and did a general pre-spring tidy outside. Man, it is gorgeous out. The kettle just boiled and now I fancy a bit of funk, soul and British swagger...

acetone- 's/t' (both the album and the 12")
my bloody valentine- 'm b v' (now that i'm hearing about people receiving their vinyl copies in the mail the anticipation is killing me)

The first nine songs on 'BR&N' along with '...And This Is Our Music' are my favorite BJM albums. But, you can't really go wrong from 'Methodrone' to 'ATIOM'. Even the poppier/more radio friendly 'Strung Out in Heaven' is a treat. Shame the band are not nicer people though. A recent brief lurk on the BJM forum board reminded me of this. Not sure what it is with that band and its fans but it really is not a positive hangout.

agreed. with pretty much everything, actually. ATIOM is the next bjm record getting a 180gm coloured vinyl reissue. that one was the first bjm i ever owned. i used to post on that forum fairly regularly and i was never trolled there, but i did notice it's quite the hotbed of some bizarre, misguided elitism. the mbv forum is like that too.

Yes, I read that too. But, unfortunately BJM's reissues seem to be some of the more expensive reissues in the record store. $40+ is a price that makes somebody think twice before spending.

the pressings are always really great as well. 180gm, colored and whatnot. so while $40 is pretty steep, there isn't a single one that i've shelled out for that i haven't felt was worth the money.

Somebody on that forum has questioned the sound quality on 'Take it From The Man'. What are your thoughts on the sound of these records? If I were to shell out for any of them it would be ATIOM.

from what i understand the teepee records repress of 'take it from the man' is kind of crappy. in general, i've found, teepee vinyl is kind of lacking in quality. the a records 'take it from the man' that came out a year or two ago is great, though.
i have noticed that the cuts on the a records versions are a bit on the quieter side, but they all play so perfectly and sound very thick and clear. the 'methodrone' vinyl sounds so much better than the CD version it's ridiculous.
