Been listening to Pye Corner Audio most of the weekend.

I can't get enough of it - that 70's sound of electro pioneers. I'm sure Delia Derbyshire would approve.

New to me - think it's the same chap as House in the Woods?

Anyway, my best find of this year (or last)

The new Six Organs album is streaming and it's a beast. it rocks hard but it also doesn't sound much like either Comets on Fire or Ascent.

http://www.npr.org/2015/02/08/383351951 ... ce-hexadic

There is some ambient clanging and droning here, but mainly it's speaker burstingly overdriven guitar mayhem, but without hard rock cliches. Apparently 'Hexadic' is some sort of compositional system he's come up with to sidestep habits and break out of the usual scales etc. no matter how many times I've read it explained in interviews, I can't make head or tail of it (and have a suspicion he's partly trolling).. but you don't have to, to listen and enjoy :)

been on a Verve bender. I was watching a show from Newcastle 1993 which is just superb.
However this will do.
Lest we forget how great this band was until RA thought he realized he was a Gallagher.
Patience needed for this clip.

Tigercats - Mysteries LP, more infectiously catchy pop tunes done very well.

The Districts - A Flourish & a Spoil LP, brilliant ramshackled rock which tears along pace a plenty :D Got this from Rough Trade sold as an exclusive 300 only purple vinyl version, haven't we heard this somewhere before

The Millennium - Begin

lush late 60s psych-pop that i'd somehow never heard before. love these kinds of discoveries! am pretty sure caribou sampled 'I'm with you' somewhere on the milk of human kindness. and the coral totally ripped off 'some sunny day' for 'in the morning'. but yeah, lots of great tunes and all fantastically produced. anyone else a fan?

also, Black Rivers - S/T
new band including two thirds of doves. quite dovesy, with a little bit more on the electronic side. really enjoying this.

i'm really enjoying this too- and surprisingly so, I must say- wasn't expecting much.
it's got enough of the Doves flava but like you say there's an increased emphasis on synths. it's top stuff! the only thing I would say is their voices aren't as strong as Jimi's and can get grating in anything more than small doses.

another new psych band getting fair amount of buzz- Spectres. I'm on the fence with what I've heard so far, but they are definitely on the noisier side of the spectrum which is good. debut album is out tomorrow.

Thanks for the Verve link, MODLAB. My first listen suggests that the Voyager 1 recordings of She's A Superstar, South Pacific and Gravity Grave came from this gig - the introductions match perfectly. Thoughts, all?

You are right. Voyager 1 was partially recorded here and in New York.

Jonathan Wilson- Gentle Spirit.

one of my fave recent discoveries. His whole thing is an invoking of the West Coast Laurel Canyon sound, but somehow it steers cleer of being too retro, or a mere pastiche.
There's some gorgeously arranged folk/country rock, and some slightly trippier moments when the keyboards kick in and he stretches out. it's immaculately produced too- very analogue sounding.

DESTRUCTION UNIT - Live In San Francisco

Incredible onslaught! The vocals are barely there amongst the carnage but having seen them live before it's just what they're like. Clambering over speaker stacks and light rigging won't make for a great vocal pick up!

The last few days have been punctuated by this amazing offical Andrew Weatherall mix album from 2008 called Watch The Ride.

Only ever played it sporadically in the past but recently it's become a go-to choice.

As the great man himself is quoted on the sleeve:
Andrew Weatherall wrote:A drive through a major metropolis an hour and fifteen before sun-up with a bespoke suited rock 'n' roll band playing disco tunes in the back...
Nailed it. Driving music par excellence, as they say. There's Weatherall's own remix of a Siouxsie tune half way through which is just incredible.

Making the commutes that much better this week:

St. Germain - Tourist

Mainly for the legendary 'Rose Rouge', but the rest of the album eats into blues, jazz and dub styles via smooth house flavour. Lovely...

Curtis Mayfield - There's No Place Like America Today

Always good to hear this again. No real high-energy stuff here like the tracks he was perhaps best known for, but instead a more subtle, meditative work concerned with social and racial inequality: the tracks are mostly long funky jams, what a band, what a voice.

Really beautiful 3 CD compilation of early Gravenhurst which came out last year on Warp. Very handsome packaging and insightful liner notes written by Nick himself.

This is a song which i always liked but, recently, has elevated itself above all that i thought before to one of complete and utter love. Such a simple song with only a few real elements. From the delicate piano melody to the sound of the metronome and the sounds of the waves, this is just wonderful. As my family and i were driving home from St Andrews last weekend with the sun set in front of us, we must have played this about 5 times in a row as it was just such a wonderful soundtrack to the firey-orange sunlight and the growing shadows. Sometimes songs just hit you; aurally, visually and, most importantly, emotionally. There is every possibility this will be played at my funeral now.

Ladies and gents, i give you Neu!

Jane Weaver - The Silver Globe , this is me still catching up on last year, had heard some of it before, but the fact she`s playing the LPF15 inspired me to give it a proper listen , really enjoying it, space rock with a touch of early 80` Hawkwind sealing the deal, one track is even built around an obscure Brock riff and she sure has a great voice, shall defo be checking her out.

Belle & Sebastian live at Benicassim 2004 and live at the Royal Albert Hall 2001

Sting - "The Last Ship..." on BBC iPlayer (really good, worth watching even if you weren't born & raised literally just over the river, a line-up with some really big names from the North East folk scene, plus a brilliant musical rendition of Rudyard Kipling's classic "Big Steamers" poem!)
I'm like Evel Knievel, I get paid for the attempt. I didn't promise this shit would be good!

WALLS - Urals - final album by them, mastered by Sonic Boom, and available as a free download for a short while. Can't say no to that can you. Loved their previous album Coracle. Andrew Weatherall - A Pox On The Pioneers.

This album is a totally unexpected gem. I really find it amazing that a man associated with dancier beat-driven music can have produced an album that sounds more like 70s glam rock and pop than anything else.

Can't fault it and it's been on rotation in the car for days now. Fantastic!

This album is a totally unexpected gem. I really find it amazing that a man associated with dancier beat-driven music can have produced an album that sounds more like 70s glam rock and pop than anything else.

Can't fault it and it's been on rotation in the car for days now. Fantastic!

good call runcible.
his NTS radio shows up on mixcloud are trove of delightful fucked up nuggets. The man never lets up pushing it to those outer realms and beyond. Hes a true inspiration even this far down the line.

This record is 14 years old? A forgotten classic.
