Jeff Buckley - If You See Her Say Hello, Just Like A Woman, Dink's Song
George Harrison - If Not For You
Flying Burrito Brothers - If You Gotta Go
Spacemen 3 - Fixin' To Die
Jeff Buckley also does a great Mama You Been On My Mind. I know he's probably not to the taste of most on this board but I think Jeff was one supertalented fella.

Hendrix's All Along The Watchtower is incredible, it's like it's from another galaxy.

I find it strange when people say they can't stand Dylan's voice and prefer cover versions (I've heard this a lot), I find his voice mesmerising and up to about the mid 70's it was also technically superb.
The Byrds covered a lot of Dylan tunes but I just find them really bland.

current listening- Do Make Say Think - s/t. space/krautrock with ringing, rippling guitars. 'nice' rather than mindblowing, helped a lot by Constellations trademark warm/uncompressed production

Yea, maybe so. But, it gets me everytime. It's hard not to feel the hairs on your neck stand up or your heart ache when listening to 'Hard Monkeys' and 'I've Been There Too'.

In fact, I would go as far as saying 'A Space in Time' and Spirit's "Twelve Dreams.." are amongst the most overlooked and under appreciated albums of the early '70's.
thanks for the recommendation!
I´ve had some 3-4 records with ten years after since I was a kid and indeed overlooked this one (never had anything later than stonedhenge). Small parts of it make me think about savoy brown´s raw sienna from two years earlier, which I think is better...
but hmm.. that one is not really about overcoming drugs.

I was a big Jeff Buckley fan in high school and kinda grew out of him, but he definitely has his moments when he's not too self-indulgent. I really like his Dylan covers and there are some hidden gems throughout the catalog.

The Byrds have a handful of tracks on Sweetheart of the Rodeo that I like, but don't really get the appeal of the earlier chiming versions of Mr. Tambourine man, etc.

Good thing Mr. $26 doesn't post here anymore. That quote would have opened up a huge can of whoopass!

I was just thinking about $26 the other day. Does anyone still correspond with him?

I'm a big Byrds fan, so I will step up for them. Bring it.

I just looked up in the search function that I've been posting here for just over seven years... why would anyone ever leave? :D

I think runcible is quite good buddies with $26 who apparently found work commitments too much to continue posting.

I do remember him saying that the Byrds are one of his all time favourite bands, and he always gave a good case, but like I say they've never really appealed to me.

Nah, not really. Tried to stay in touch but gave up as he hardly ever got back to me. Shame as we had some lively correspondence.

A big fan of The Byrds ,not huge but they always do it for me ,been listening to The Notorious Byrd Brothers this week ,the opening 5 tracks are just sublime ,Artificial Energy ,Goin` Back ,Natural Harmony ,Draft Morning and Wasn`t Born To Follow ,an astonishing opening ,

anyway ,listening to a Buddy Holly compilation ,guy was a genius ,astonishing what he did in such a short time, tragic what happened.

Belle & Sebastian - The Lonleiness of a Middle Distance Runner - This is a mind-blower. A phenomenal performance and exhibit of melodic writing at its finest. I could listen to this five times in a row without getting bored. However, I will probably move on to "Take Your Carriage Clock And Shove It" next.

Yes, great album. I also love his first, 'Ramblin' Gamblin' Man".

I saw an original issue of 'Seven' yesterday for $15. I have it on tape but it also wasn't in brilliant condition so I didn't buy it. I think it and 'Back in '72' are the beginning of when the Silver Bullet sound started to show up.

that song is what one would call 'breathtaking' i think.
i also really love 'nightingale.' beautiful song.

it is indeed- definitely their best in about ten years i'd say.

somehow i never heard 'the fool' by warpaint- a friend burned me a cd of it and i've been listening to it for a week straight.
the new kurt vile record is really great as well.

Sonic Youth- Daydream Nation (live disc from deluxe edition). not hugely different from the studio versions really but great quality and some good guitar noise.

i've heard a lot of good things about that Kurt Vile album, it seems to be getting nods all over the place. he was a member of The War On Drugs whose album I was enjoying a lot last year.

I like the Kurt Vile album. It's not going to blow your mind, but is very likeable as a solid collection of songs and certainly superior to the patchy Childish Prodigy.

I love Bluebird. It teeters right on the edge of becoming a self-parody, without quite falling into the abyss like far too much of his solo career.
