Kevin Ayers - Bananamour

love it!
also, a bit of an influence on jason perhaps?
the brass on 'when your parents go to sleep' and the spaced out guitars on 'decadence' for example?

The Hills - Master Sleeps
The Hills - s/t

Endlessly repeating... how bloody good are these? Really loved the neu/stereolab vibe to the tracks on the first album, but the second album is really starting to grow on me... the second album reminds me so much of Wooden Shjips, White Hills, Mogwai and many other... fantastic follow up!

Yeah, Pete use to beat the shit out of the drums. He was always the most intriguing member of the group to me. Remember reading in the Melody Maker that he died...seems like yesterday.

Suede - Be My God / Art Promo 12"

I went digging in the storage room for some vinyl today and came across this. White label and white inner bag with no info but I remember it was the Misses and always thought it was some live boot of Suede. After listening & doing some research I realized what it was. Not really too much of a Suede fan but ripped it anyway. If anyone wants a copy, just PM me.

That is a very regular listen hereabouts. I'm very partial to a blast of that, Mazes by Moon Duo and Autopia by Eat Lights Become Lights. They really complement each other very well. Has been a regular way of filling a couple of hours at the end of a day.

Back on topic: Explosions in the Sky - Take Care, Take Care, Take Care.- still not sure about the album, but I quite like the artwork.

This!

Absolutely incredible record so far. Even the intro....the intro!...is miles ahead of a lot I've heard recently. Pharoahe Monch has now been elevated to one of the precious few artists who never let me down...

Next - Bitches Brew Live by Miles Davis.

Jeff Buckley - Chocolate / Mojo Pin

Buckley the younger had grown up on Cocteau Twins and some other 80s dream pop, so he's got some sensual and reverb-laden tracks that might appeal to fans of Spiritualized and My Bloody Valentine. One of the best of them is the live b-side Chocolate/Mojo Pin, which starts with a spaced-out intro before transitioning into a great version of one of his better songs. Highly recommended!

Bo Ningen - s/t.
Saw them live on Sat. and they were excellent - thought they'd just be crazy noisy but the music was brilliant too! Some heavy psych type stuff. Checking out the album just now and it's sounding good so far.

Other than that I've been listening to the Moon Duo a lot lately, also following an incredible gig.

Bob Dylan - I'll Keep It With Mine (rehearsal w/ The Band from Bootleg Series 1)

A half formed take that gathers steam as it goes, but evolves into something beautiful. The Band contribute their best playing ever in this performance, I think. The organ is spectacular.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, love that song but the version on Biograph is far superior! just Bob at the piano and has much more yearning in it.

I know what you mean about the wonder of hearing the Band feel their way into an arrangement though. there's a similar thing on She's Your Lover Now which is one of my favourite Dylan outtakes. the lyrics are incredible and you can hear how adept the Band are as arrangers, as the songs progresses it fills out more

I can't say anything bad about any Dylan recording I've heard of I'll Keep It With Mine, one of my favorites of his from the 60s. I love the Biograph version, but I wouldn't say it's "superior" to the version with the Band. Yes, it's more finished but there's an incredible expressiveness to his lazy drawl in the demo.

If you want a good listen, arrange the three released versions of I'll Keep It With Mine in order of their recording: the one from bootleg 9, the version with the Band from Bootleg 1, and then the one from Biograph. Together, they're a beautiful suite in which you can hear the song crystallize into its final form.

clear horizon- clear horizon- this one is the best record i've bought all year. not sure why, but for whatever reason kranky has brought all of jessica bailiff's records back into print. finally found her self-titled record on vinyl and finally bought this record- it's a collaboration between jessica bailiff and dave pearce. since i've been on a flying saucer attack kick lately it seemed appropriate to grab this when i saw it the other day. what a fantastic record! a match made in heaven. i couldn't recommend this highly enough if you're familiar with jessica or FSA.

Bob Dylan - I And I

It's a travesty that the recent Rolling Stone "Top 70 Bob Dylan songs" didn't include this classic from Infidels. As usual, it was a boring list of the same old same old.

Nice. After hearing Echo Lake they've become quite a fav of mine. Loving what I've heard of Sun & Shade so far via the links on Pitchfork and elsewhere. Pushing Onlys is wonderful. Really looking forward to it, and the new Ganglians one too. Their new track Jungle is a beauty.

The past 2 days have seen me dive headfirst back into Battles - Mirrored with a bit of Mark Lannegan - Bubblegum thrown in for 'light' relief.
