Yeah I completely agree. With the possible exception of Hendrix's All Along The Watchtower, and even then I really don't think so, Dylan is by far the definitive interpreter of his material. No one else has the subtlety and mastery of phrasing.

Right now, John Gregory - Jaguar

From the amazing Sound Gallery series, brilliant incidental music from the late 60s. Lush strings and a swanky groove make you feel like you're the star of a psychedelia-tinged Steve McQueen movie.

Monster Magnet - Tab (live). This is the legendary performance in Holland in the early 90's when Dave Wyndorf lost his voice and they played an improvised instrumental set. It's an astonishing performance and although a little lo-fi the recording captures the breadth and mayhem of what they were doing superbly. The audience got a one-off that night I think and I wish I'd been there too.

Also:
Monster Magnet - Spine of God
Jerry Garcia Band - Let It Rock (live)
Various - It A Go Dread (reggae compilation CD)
Mighty Baby - A Jug Of Love
Condello - Phase 1
Front Page Review - Mystic Soldiers

At certain points in my life I keep returning to the Grateful Dead and simply can't get enough....yesterday I listened to this show whilst I was staining/weatherproofing our deck:

Grateful Dead 6/17/75 SF

A very nice show in an interesting year for the Dead. A few of the songs from 'Blues for Allah' make their debut in this show but 'Peggy-O' for me, sums everything up about why I love this band so much. My heart wept and felt heavy as a brick during this song.

I also went out and bought the new Wilco album and played it last night while we cooked dinner. I very much enjoyed it.

Condello - Phase 1

Little known US pop/psych record from '68 that I hadn't heard before. Some lighter tracks and a couple heavier ones but more interestingly is the use of phaser in a couple tunes. Thanks to runcible for steering me in the direction of this one. There are some pretty good tunes on it but like a lot of 60's psych releases there are also some weaker songs that feel like after thoughts or filler.

Now, if the whole album was like the opening track on side 2!

The Upsidedown - The Town With Bad Wiring
Grateful Dead - an endless series of live stuff
Panda Bear - Person Pitch

and...
Majesty Crush - Uma. Features our very own Muscles on vocals. I am dumbstruck - a cracking little indie pop gem and the vocals are really excellent.

yes! ..was pretty disappointed with their last record - the one after aman iman - but the new one seems to be a return to form, more of that wonderfully mellow saharan rebel blues

the soateramic sounds of magoo

talk about a nostalgia trip!
i used to be obsessed with this album.
finally tracked down a replacement copy and gave it a spin.
absolutely incredible!!
heavily psychedelic and totally unique. dark, atmospheric, schizophrenic, spiky shoegaze pop.

i just noticed they have clips of 3 new tracks on their myspace page, ready for a new album. their last album was incredible, so I'm really looking forward to the new one.

got to agree, a very moving little piece ,The Copper Top is a real pub not far from me ,asorta post-modern monstrosity ,probably built at the same time as the housing scheme it sits on the edge of ,with a dome roof that comes up to a point all copper covered and pretty close to the crematorium ,just like in the song .
