Bradford Cox / LA / Lay Back in the Sun

Post by lake.st.clair »

the echo show in LA: what are the ramifications of that show on music?

bradford cox was present as DJ before the show. i told him out front, that his music makes me 'so excited for new music', etc. etc. good chat. i think he is a genius, and has got something good going on with his music, be it deerhunter (cryptograms has some wonderful dances and space-outs), or atlas sound (more minimal, but has some great layers and patterns).

when i first got into the venue, he was playing "hurricane fighter plane" by red crayola, what i hoped was an homage to spacemen 3. he must then have known the gravity of the event we were all about to witness.

I can only hope that their new album will be as good as, and continue the path they were on with cryptograms.

those two shows in LA really lit the whole town up. i was fortunate enough to see both of them. "lay back in the sun" should be the anthem of southern california.

Bradford and Deerhunter are certainly very good....but, IMHO, "genius" is a tag that i'd reserve for proof of a few albums down the road to see what they're capable of.
