Lux Interior: RIP

Post by flamingrev »

Ultra-fucked bummer:

The Official Statement (from Girlie Action, The Cramps' media representatives):

For Immediate Release:
February 4, 2009

Lux Interior, lead singer of The Cramps, passed away this morning due to an existing heart condition at Glendale Memorial Hospital in Glendale, California at 4:30 AM PST today. Lux has been an inspiration and influence to millions of artists and fans around the world. He and wife Poison Ivy's contributions with The Cramps have had an immeasurable impact on modern music.

The Cramps emerged from the original New York punk scene of CBGB and Max's Kansas City, with a singular sound and iconography. Their distinct take on rockabilly and surf along with their midnight movie imagery reminded us all just how exciting, dangerous, vital and sexy rock and roll should be and has spawned entire subcultures. Lux was a fearless frontman who transformed every stage he stepped on into a place of passion, abandon, and true freedom. He is a rare icon who will be missed dearly.

The family requests that you respect their privacy during this difficult time.

At last, someone here has noticed Thee Oh Sees. Their album "The Masters Bedroom Is Worth Spending A Night In" was one of the best of '08 without a doubt. A must see live experience too.

Goodbye Lux.

More very sad news…

A bona fide rock ‘n’ roll legend and hero to me.

Bye Lux.

Oh no - that's sad, but also a curious coincidence. I've flirted with The Cramps for decades without being a huge fan although my admiration and respect was always intact. Multi sent me a whole load of Cramps stuff and I played it all back to back yesterday...

Runcible, make sure you try the earlier stuff. Psychedelic Jungle, Songs The Lord Taught us, the comp Bad Music For Bad People.

You've probably already worked that out, but it is much better than their later stuff which sometimes had sorta generic rockabilly with standard Crampisms thrown on top.

Smell of Female is essential too, got my first copy in 1984 and it still sounds fantastic today.

I am having a Cramps night tonight and raising a glass to Lux and Ivy.

I listened to 2 of those yesterday - Psychedelic Jungle, Songs The Lord taught Us plus Gravest Hits. So I'm up to speed as to what's what.

"Well I'm a human fly
It's spelt F-L-Y
I say buzz ,buzz, buzz, and it's just because..
I'm a human fly and I don't know why
I got ninety six tears in my ninety six eyes.

I got a garbage brain, it's drivin' me insane
And I don't like your ride, so push that pesticide
And baby I won't care, 'cause baby I don't scare
'Cause I'm a reborn maggot using germ warfare. Rockin'
Zzzzz...

I'm a human fly
It's spelt F-L-Y
I say buzz, buzz, buzz, and it's just because..
I'm a unzipped fly, and I don't know why
And I don't know, but I say

Buzz...ride tonight
And I say buzz...rocket ride
And I say buzz...I don't know why
I don't know I just, don't know why..."

Goodbye Lux. :(

Awwww, shit! I was just playing a bunch of my Cramps stuff yesterday and over the last few days too! Garbageman is one hell of a bad-ass psycho-delic freakout!!! Also, could somebody else out there please tell me: What other frontman has ever had a name as cool as Lux Interior?

I was on holiday in Poland last week and knew nothing of this terrible news until I got home.

I was stunned and sad. I love The Cramps.

I can't add anything else to what's already been said - but Lux was an inspiration.

The Cramps - 'Rockin' Bones':

I wanna leave a happy memory
when I go
I wanna leave something
to let the whole world know
that the rock 'n' roll daddy has
a done passed on
but my bones will keep a rockin' long after I've gone

Roll on
Rock on
Raw Bones
Well I still got all the rhythm in these
Rockin' Bones

Well when I die don't you burry
me at all, Just nail my bonesup on
the wall, Beneath these bones let

these words be seen, "This is the
bloody gears of a
boppin' machine"

Roll on
Rock on
Raw Bones
Well I still got all the rythem in these
Rockin' Bones

And I worry about tomorrow just
thinkin' about tonight, My bones are
getting restless and I do it up right,
A few more times around a hardwood
floor, Before we turn off the lights and
close the door

Roll on
Rock on
Raw Bones
Well I still got all the rhythm in these
Rockin' Bones

RIP LUX
