10 greatest songs ever

Post by bunnyben »

was just listening to a song and realised it's one of those songs that i cannot live without and then thought what are the top ten songs ever? (one per artist unless the song is too good)

in no particular order

staple singers- long walk to dc
spiritualized- ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space
the velvet underground- waitin' for the man
oasis- whatever
leonard cohen- suzanne
bob dylan- tombstone blues
frank sinatra- the summer wind
grieg- morning
strauss- blue danube
echo and the bunnymen- the killing moon

it's pretty hard thing to do-so many great songs but which ones tip the scales and reach the summit of the mountain?
'raging and weeping are left on the early road
now each in his holy hill
the glittering and hurting days are alomst done
then let us compare mythologies
i have learned my elaborate lie
of soaring crosses and poisened thorns'

indeed ben this is very difficult (along with runci' defiling moments thread) i've given them both mucho thought on journeys recently...

I think I have 4 or 5 but then am i really thinking too much...shouldn't these just be called to mind with ease?!?!?

Hmm, the lab is cluttered with mutters tonight...

Bravo,

Stuart

yep ben this is just too hard- although i do share your enthusiasm for ladies and gentlemen (one of the few songs i want played at my wedding and my funeral..) and tombstone blues (mike bloomfields shit hot guitar, and the way dylan spits out the words..)

like elektronic says though maybe it should just be the first 10 great songs that come to mind, if i have to think about them they cant be lodged in my heart that much..

since i made the list i've gone oh shit i forgot this song! one example is scott walker's - we came came through. i still stand by the other songs though!

oh it helps if you are obsessed with lists- but i don't mean the tedius q magazine top 100 shoes in rock n roll-esque bullshit
