LAGWAFIS Legacy Edition

“To tie in with the live performance, Sony Music will be releasing an expanded Legacy Edition of "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space" in October with added content and new packaging. More details tbc.”

I don't imagine the added content will be anything that isn't out there anyway...... but we can hope!

post the whole article

Spiritualized will play 'Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space' live in it's entirety at London's Royal Festival Hall.

The 1997, No. 4 charting, classic album will be performed in full on October 12, 2009, with the band accompanied by a choir and string and horn sections.

Coinciding with the live gig, an expanded Legacy Edition of the album will be released in October, with added material and new packaging. More details to be confirmed.

The Ladie and Gentlemen show is the first Don't Look Back show announced so far. The annual series, organised by All Tomorrow's Parties sees bands revisit classic albums live. Previous participants include Teenage Fanclub and The Lemonheads.

Tickets for the DLB Spiritualized show will go on sale on Thursday March 19th at 10am.

Spiritualized will also be appearing at the following this Summer:

‘Spaceship’ Show, Queen Elizabeth Hall, London (April 20)
The Assembly, Leamington Spa (May 8)
All Tomorrow’s Parties, Minehead (May 10)
The Big Chill, Eastnor Castle, Herefordshire (August 8)

So - Spiritualized are now on Sony? And Sony want to cash in on L&G (and why not?) as it's their biggest record sales wise.

I hope the extra tracks aren't just the stuff we've already got.

Anyway - all positive stuff.

demos of ladies and gents songs would obviously also be some sort of holy grail. But even if J did do demos of a conventional kind at the time im not holding my breath.

I think they're all one and the same - Dedicated was always technically part of BMG and was eventually amalgamated with BMG (inc Arista) who then merged with Sony (=SonyBMG) who are now Sony Music Entertainment.

So I don't think it necessarily means that Spz are now on Sony - but it doesn't completely rule it out either.

i think they probably will sign with Sony now, that this LAGWFIS episode maybe the condition/consummation.
it may be as simple as Sony attaining it through BMG, but the fact that J is obviously invested into the idea enough he's staging a concert in tune with the release suggests he's pretty comfortable in Sonys bed.

hopefully it means a good budget for the new album!! a double LP...??

and the record must be perfectly tight against the inside of the balloon so that two airtight compartments are created (hole in the middle covered with thin tin foil) -
side a filled with blue oil (representing air, sky)
side b filled with yellow oil (representing the sun)
when the tinfoil gives way the oils mix into a green goo (representing earth)

What I really want to hear is The Balanescu Quartet version of Pure Phase that Jason's never made available, as they also played on LAG there could be something similar included in the forthcoming bonus material

maybe the 12 year thing has something to do with the 12 "pills" in the original ltd edition/ 12 tracks on LAG? (which when it came out i didnt buy, cos i thought i would never be able to play it, what a fool eh? i bought the single pill pack instead! a choice i regret to this day!) and yes it will be good to see how they can top the original packaging, maybe blue vinyl? silver vinyl? in a box? triple disc with exrtas on the 3rd disc?

sony-bmg now own the dedicated back catalogue, and thus i guess have the option of utilising the spzd back catalogue for a re-release. amusingly, i'd love to see if the linear notes amend the authorship, since itunes credits `j spacemen, sean cook and spiritualized` as the writers of ladies and gents.

yeah 12 is just as significant a number as 10*
12 months in a year, 12 signs of the zodiac, 12 notes in a standard western octave, 12 step program of AA and AN.. dozen

* the only really cool thing about ten is that it contains that magical Indian number

but I only have the 1 pill record as well... opened..

I am quite curious as to what we'll get as part of the legacy edition. Usually these things either seem to have a different mixed album (mono/stereo from sixties reissues) or a few B sides (See tracks 6-13 on the complete works Vol. 2). There were quite a lot of radio broadcasts from the LAGWAFIS tours so maybe some live tracks might be in the off-ing. The other alternative are the remix tracks, which never made it to the complete works. I wouldn't mind having those on CD. Any other thoughts?

Perhaps the 'Dub Together' remix by Richard Fearless/Death In Vegas may get an official outing on a Spiritualized release rather than the DIV 12" that's knocking around?

im actually really excited.

likely scenario is a live show that hasn't been officially released before (maybe the one off of Supplementary Dosage or something?) and maybe the elvis mix?

dream scenario is some live in the studio demos, DVD of a live show and documentary. one can but hope.

i'm gonna love this whatever though. my original pill box version (my only copy) is falling apart.

My thoughts:

1) Lots of formats with different stuff on each so we HAVE to buy them all.

2) 12 different colours of vinyl

3) 12x7" vinyl set in a first aid kit type box. A side would have the track, B side would have some etched artwork.

4) Shitty mp3 download in rubbish bit rate and no artwork at all
It's nice to be liked,
But it's better by far to get paid.

it's a good point, i've often almost bought a bog standard jewel case one for a fiver, it's just that there's always something new and fresh i'd rather buy for that fiver!

Blimey. I am quite literally a bit shocked by that. 2 cd's of outtakes? Considering there has never been any real outtakes or alternative versions released apart from Friendly Frire and Blue on Blue and those came out against Jason's wishes, this is a bit of a radical departure. I'm certainly more excited about this release now.

Good spot! White, clear and now black. Wonder if they'll package the extra 2 CDs of material this way also - would need an even bigger box than the original 12 CD version.

Guess we might expect a single tray version in black also?

Actually have mixed feelings about this (if this does indeed end up as one of the formats). Understand wanting to keep with the original concept etc but would have been nice to have something a little different.

It's like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black.

If there were 12 CDs in the first set will this edition go up to 13 then?

I don´t like that farrow design - looks like fucking lego star wars or something..
black on black embossed texture can be great - talking heads fear of music is a favourite - but if it´s going to be a plain twodimensional print then it´s absolutely horrible.
