SPZ album you'd prefer to see performed in its entirety?

Post by GooeyPrickles »

So they're going to play LAGWAFIS. Cool. I'm gonna miss it, trapped in Bulgaria.

But I'm curious to know what album SPZ nerds would most prefer to see performed live in its entirety?

I'm going to say either Pure Phase or Let it Come Down. Pure Phase because it's my favorite SPZ album and Let it Come Down because if it were done right, that being with about a million musicians on stage, I think it would be absolutely mind-blowing.

Thoughts?

LAGWAFIS is probably one of my favourite albums of all time. The only gig I would want to see more would be Pink Floyd doing Animals.

For me it's the right one they're performing 'Ladies & Gents...' is probably my second favourite album ever. Amazing Grace would be good too.

A&E without doubt is geared towards this type of event more than any spz album...and my own preference would be for this...

IMO LAGWAFIS will dither between 7 & 10 and Cop Shoot Cop is just a step too far for me...although I do admire this album incredibly it's become my fourth fav spz album over time.

Also when was the last time Sway was played at a gig?

Yeah I'll second that. By way of coincidence I watched the video recording of Glasto 92 the other day when the Modlab family passed through and it completely floored me - Modlab too. Having been there was an added bonus but that period was definitely very special.

hmmm...touche...

Let me rephrase: it would be a real treat to witness any Spz album performed in its entirety, but I'm happy that it is LAGWAFIS.

The first one sounded more epic.

I honestly can't decide between Ladies and Gents and LGM.

Musically Ladies and Gents is astounding but LGM is oh so amazing to get high too!

LGM BUT it would have to be with Mark Refoy Will Johnny Mattock and Kate for me nobody could match this line up. Cannot help feeling people are being cheated with the Ladies and Gents gig in that im guessing none of the original band (Thigh Paul Cook Damon Reece you wouldnt have thought after all the bad mouthing will Richard let Kate play?) who helped create this album will not be there?

1. Let It Come Down with a full choir and orchestra.
2. Lazer Guided Melodies if they stayed true to the original "Sedated" sound of the album.

Dan the Man,

Your an IDIOT. Why don't you take a few moments to read the thread. It states "SPZ album". Guitar LOOPS is NOT a SPZ album, but a solo effort. Why don't you also say 'Spaceshipp' in the meantime ?

No wonder your such a bonehead !

I'd go for Lazer Guided Melodies done in the original spirit of the record, however in the Don't Look Back tradition (eg B&S's 'If You're Feeling Sinister') then they slightly reorder the tracks, plus sometimes put another half dozen or so songs at the end...in which case Medication, Cheapster and 200 Bars would be prime candidates to finish off the gig.

Does anyone know if this is being recorded for release, and if there will be extra tracks performed after the whole of LAGWAFIS?
I'm like Evel Knievel, I get paid for the attempt. I didn't promise this shit would be good!

Let It Come Down for me, that would be epic.

Been looking at some other message boards, theres quite a buzz about these ladies and gents gigs. The nme board is horrible, its full of emo kids about 15 years old. Some funny comments on there- someone was hoping the 'special guests' will be messrs Cook/Reece/Mooney- fat chance! Someone also called Spz a slowdive rip off band- very strange.

Maybe there won't be a second set after/before ladies and gents, as the album is a good 70 mins and they could stretch it to near 90 mins with some good jamming. However i do think they should take advantage of the full horns/strings ensemble being to hand and give us Spread Your Wings, or some LICD goodness!!

I just had a look there and there are some real idiots. It took some control to resist registering and slagging off one guy. Then I remembered I was looking at the NME message board and therefore the home of people who read that wretched publication, so the place was inevitably packed full of idiots.

This isn't a fair question.Original band members wouldn't be there for half the records.Idon't know can Doggen wail the harp like Sean Cook. That tour was unreal and so was his band. Not to take anything away from the new lineup but it's just not gonna be the same.

Oh mee oh myy.. I to this day do not understand the great love for Ladies and Gents, no offense to anyone :) Definitely Lazer, Pure Phase, or LICD... (The two newest albums I love but they're too new, obviously  ) Oh and I definitely second the idea of the earlier albums being played more closely to the original sounds, although I do like some of the overblown live stuff, esp. F'ed up Inside and the LICD live stuff from 2001 when they still had the horns and everything!

I'm gonna have to say Songs In A&E because it is the newest... I guess I'm uncertain as to how creatively valid an experience this will be for Mr Spaceman, I want him to move forward not back...... hopefully he is getting lots of money for it so he can finance the next record... having said all that I do think the L&GWAFIS gigs will be great and we'll all have an amazing time!
and through wax seals and padlocks...a hand through my ribcage...past the choking I saw palms and fingers grasping shoulders...collarbone...crushing...I imagined myself hacking desperately at a sea of appendages...freeing myself like a butcher...
