New Flowers Of Hell album with Sonic, Will, Ray Dickaty & mo

Post by poppy »

So the Flowers Of Hell’s 2nd album Come Hell Or High Water is now out. It took 40 sessions with 30 musicians in London, Prague, Toronto, Detroit, & Abilene, Texas. Sonic mixed a couple of the tracks and Will Carruthers plus ex-spz saxman Ray Dickaty guest on it - as do folk from the Patti Smith Group, Cale's band The Earlies, Broken Social Scene, Guided By Voices, Do Make Say Think, & the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Plus there’s Flowers regulars Abi Fry (British Sea Power, Bat For Lashes) and Mel Draisey (The Clientele, Le Volume Courbe, & sometimes Primal Scream) doing most of the strings. And a couple of tracks were co-written & co-produced with some of The Earlies and Jan Muchow of Prague’s Ecstasy Of Saint Theresa.

Notably, this space rock comes NASA approved! A blogger at mission control recently picked up on the Flowers Of Hell and synched one of the songs to footage of the recent Discovery voyage - and that’s now gone viral amongst the Space Center staff. One small step for space rock.

Here’s a free track (one of the one’s Sonic mixed) http://www.box.net/shared/7odacaa489

CD is out now in the UK & Canada, while the LP version with a download code will be ready in a month. And it’s available everywhere on iTunes.

Cool. The trumpet anthem one from the first album shuiffled on last night and very nice too. I said - this sounds like Apollo 13 or something. That is surely the one NASA have used.

Will be buying this for sure. The strings on the 3" CD remind me very much of the sound and feel of the Perfect Prescription and Ecstacy Symphony strings.

I bought this and to be honest found it pretty disappointing.

It sounded like a collection of half finished SPZ demos/outtakes/b-sides. Not impressed.

It's on ebay now. Won't post a link because that would be advertizing !
