Belfast -Orbital (Orbital)
Bone Machine - Surfer Rosa (Pixies)

I would seriously like to nominate 'welcome to the pleasuredome'. As an opener this is pretty immense, Trevor Horn certainly didn't hold back on the production. So

Welcome to the Pleasuredome - Welcome to the Pleasuredome (Frankie Goes to Hollywood).

Silly rule about banning singles - but I'll play with your rules, Runcy.

Here's my shout:

Coming Up - Echo & The Bunnymen

Frustration - Soft Cell

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

Sonic Youth - (She's In A) Bad Mood from Confusion Is Sex

The Velvet Underground & Nico was originally to have been opened by European Son - 8:49 minutes of noise

that would have won this for me

I think Belfast was the first track on the US release of the first 'green' album, understandable confusion

Have we had Foxey Lady - Are You Experienced (The Jimi Hendrix Experience) without doubt the best opener for a full on debut.

Fellow Space Cadets,

My $0.02...

Nomination for best ever opening track on a debut album has to be Tubular Bells Pt.1.

For me it's gotta be The Pogues 'Transmetropolitan'.

Always makes me want to sink a bottle of whisky then start a riot. What more could you ask?!?!
