Pink Mountaintops

Post by TheWarmth »

Has anyone heard this band's new album? I watched a video on Pitchfork last night and thought the song, "Execution," was excellent. I'm wondering if I should go out and buy the record. Thoughts?

The good stuff is excellent. I bought the 1st 2 albums in reverse order and, after enjoying the 2nd was rather disappointed by the 1st. Not heard the new one yet.

It's definitely a lot more lush and layered in sound than the previous two albums. More melancholy as well. Album of the year for me so far, by quite some margin. (I also agree that their first album is very unimpressive.. love "Axis of Evol" though)

it's excellent indeed. "while we were dreaming" is absolutely haunting, and i can't decide whether i prefer the album version sung by a woman, or the acoustic version of the video sung by stephen mcbean.

Someone on here made me a CD with a great Joy Division cover on it.

it took me 3 listens to really get into it. Probably because of the rave reviews read previously.

I finally got a nice vinyl copy of this album and have been digging it. Not sure if it'll make my top ten list at the end of the year, but it's a really good record.

Not bad. Who is the dude that's the "creative center" of the band? He kinda looks "unabomber-ish", with the beard and the scraggly, wild hair and all...

Finally picked this up yesterday and I'm loving it. What a lovely record. This and Soulsavers are probably in contention for my album of the year (which makes me realise we'll prob have another list thread coming up soon).

Couldn't agree more. Still can't go more than a few days without it ending up back in the car stereo or on the iPod in the kitchen (when assigned to washing up duties).

Have to say my friend you are spot on just keep getting drawn back to it, there isn't a bad track on it.

Second place for my album of the year has to be Sweet Billy Pilgrim - Twice Born Men, simply beautiful.

Just can't get into this album. I liked the previous two, especially Axis of Evol, but it's not happening for me with this release. The opening song Thrones of Love is gorgeous but after that i find it all unengaging. Every time i do listen to it though i find myself thinking what a great album Bill Callahan/Smog (circa 1996-2001) would've made of it.
