I'm afraid my suggestions will slant (heavily indeed) towards the old school. But I'd argue the following are essential:
1. Eric B & Rakim "Paid In Full"
2. EPMD "Strictly Business"
3. Gang Starr "Step In The Arena"
4. A Tribe Called Quest "People's Instinctive Travels..."
5. Main Source "Breaking Atoms."
Well, nothing there later than 91 or so. Yet still.

Good list. I'd go with A Tribe's Low End Theory instead though...
And let's not forget:
Run DMC- Raising Hell
Public Enemy- It Takes A Nation...
NWA- Straight Outta Compton
Dr Dre- The Chronic
Boogie Down Productions- Criminal Minded
Cypress Hill- Black Sunday
The Beastie Boys- Licensed To Ill (why not?)

Veiko I really enjoyed the ICE ICE BABY video immensely. And ICE went a round or two with MADONNA so hey? A white boy that can DANCE!~
Runcible you and 26 should be voted off because GENESIS? and MC5?

LED ZEPPELIN! now I'm with ya!
GENESIS! ?
you get the finger pal.
PETER GABRIEL "IN YOUR EYES" nice! but the rest of it? RUBBISH.

yes, fact is that you atleast have microscopic mucus between your ears for saying it out that you only want a girl for fucking.Muscles wrote:And ICE went a round or two with MADONNA so hey?
dear Muscle, please tell us what is so important about fucking Madonna??????? A madonna.
in what areas that gives you or me or you or them or you a credit?
Muscle, you want to get respected?
respected where? here?
no. so respected where?
Muscle, you ask so who is respected then?
i can vanish tomorrow. you? well, if ICE fucked Madonna and you know it for sure then you must make your stone for your grave about it. i am an optimist.
Eh? Must be where the MC5 originated from that you object to, right?Muscles wrote:

Yeah Genesis - my honesty too much for you?. What did you listen to when you were a kid? Oh, of course - Raw Power was your first purchase. I should have known that. That's what they all say.
Oh puh-lease. We may be old fashioned here in England but I know serious rap fans who think Run DMC a caricature of hip-hop, and the others are all looked at as being comedy artists.Muscles wrote:
INSANE CLOWN POSSE
RUN DMC
VANILLA ICE
KID ROCK
Let's not forget that RAP is also CRAP with a letter missing. (prepares for endless outrage from hip-hop fans)

Veiko it may be time for another VICODIN. Maybe give a few to RUNCY!
Let's put it this way, I would not kick MADONNA out of bed.
Dude I remember listening to things like UDO JURGEN and bits of shit my ma used to put on alotta BEATLES and back in those days radio was good. A Whole Lotta LED ZEPPELIN...THE EAGLES used to be on the RADIO non fucking stop. "HOTEL CALIFORNIA" GRAND FUNK RAILROAD...BAD COMPANY. THE BAY CITY ROLLERS...PINK FLOYD.
Lots of MOTOWN...my parents were really into music. My Dad had alot of fucking albums. Mostly R N B but I think he had ST.PEPPER. Probably the only WHITE people in his collection. Maybe AVERAGE WHITE BAND as I recall they were rather FUNKY for white boys.
My mom had alot of GERMAN SINGERS.
I like that. Made it more interesting...
And I went to the same HIGH SCHOOL as SPZ!
THE WHO played there in the 60's.
I think ALAN can back me up on that!
THE WHO played at our fucking HIGH SCHOOL!

As already mentioned
Daytona 500 - ghostface killer is a quality tune,
Strong Island - JVC Force One from "back in the day" as those cats like to say
3 feet hight and rising - de la soul. pure class
What its all about - Run DMC which samples fools gold. always nice to hear.
paid in full - Eric B and Rakim
the first Jurrasic 5 album is a proper old skool treat. big breaks. nice bit of turntablism
Tipping point - The roots they finish the album with a nice 11 minute funk jam which is really good.
Public Enemy - pure class
Beastie boys - any album from Licenced to ill onwards. altho from Ill Communication the albums suffer slightly from having too many latin type jam tracks on them. so are good but it does tend to drag after a while.
and for something a bit different The Jay Z vs DJ Dangermouse - Grey Album is a good listen. Youve probably heard all the hype but instrumentaly its made up entirley of samples from the white album. with Jay z over the top.
enjoy

Wham Rap - Wham! (Hey Sucka!)
Ant Rap - Adam and the Ants (Put some wax on the trax and slide on outta here)
Where are you baby? - Betty Boo (...used up all my tissues on seriouser issues)
Rhythm is a Dancer - Snap (I'm as serious as cancer/Rhythm is a dancer)
Ebeneezer Goode - Shamen (I'm Mr C, that's Mr C, not a Mr B or a Mr E
but Mr C that's who I am, it's Mr C it rhymes with E but it's Mr C).
The Rapping bit in the middle of I'm Free - Soup Dragons (It's good to be free/these are the words I get from my Granddaddy)
Don't believe the Hype - PE (No you can't have it back, you silly rabbit)
...do you remember when all indie records seemed to have a rapping bit in the middle? It always struck me as a bit ... patronising ... wholemeal ... 'great mates with black people' ... you know?

a few artists not mentioned
schoolly d – self titled lp (p.s.k. what does it mean?)
kool g rap and dj polo – road to the riches (men at work)
pharcyde – bizarre ride II the pharcyde (oh shit)
digital underground – sex packets (doowutchyalike)
black star – mos def & talib kweli are black star (definition)
doug e fresh – the show/ladi dadi 12â€
on a side note, simonkeeping...the 11 minute jam at the end of the tipping point is a remake of din daa daa by george kranz, done extremely well i might add.
