A Madcap t-shirt. Awww.

I got Bob Dylan and The Best Of of The Cure.
W: What are we supposed to do with that?
M: Eat it.
W: Eat it? Fucker’s alive.
M: Yeah, you’ve got to kill it.
W: Me? I’m the firelighter and fuel collector.

The record store on my block takes big chain retailer gift cards, so I redeemed my best buy and target cards there.

Got new flaming lips on colored vinyl, Stop Your Crying 12" (which, for some strange reason, I thought I had but in fact did not), The Fall's Infotainment Scam on vinyl, and a Pissed Jeans 7".

My aunt gives me the best gifts ever! Hahaha.

A bunch of reggae 7"s.

Among them:

Junior Byles - Fade Away
Tenor Saw - Ring the Alarm
A bootleg of Johnny Osbourne's "Truth & Rights" riddim with the vocal from Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On".
Jacob Miller - Tenement Yard
Max Romeo - Give Praises
Some nice new jungle versions of Dawn Penn's "No No No (You Don't Love Me)" and Eek-A-Mouse's "Wa-Do-Dem".
and a few more. I shall look forward to playing them out on NYE.

How's the Washed Out 12"? Pretty pricey purchase I think......but then so is the Orphans LP box so that's a big thumbs up alround.

Santa bought me

The XX - XX - great album I must say, though it did get slated around these parts I think.
Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um - Legacy Edition
HMV vouchers.....so many choices to spend them on
Keith Richards biography by Victor Bockris........which I already have. Bummer.

Not as much as I'd usually get but it's a hard time of year this year so grateful for whatever came my way.

Big thumbs up on the Washed Out ~ Life o Leisure EP. I like it a lot. Great grooves and nice vocals. I have a digital copy of his earlier EP, High Times, but I don't like that nearly as much. Hopefully, there is an album coming soon.

Those trainers are phenomenal! Especially with the silver laces. I once wore a pair of silver trainers to a Spiritualized gig by way of knowing nod to J Spaceman's choice of footwear. Nobody cared.

Music-wise, I got The Very Best Of Orange Juice and Matt Berry's Witchazel from my better half this year. Having heard Rip It Up on 6Music one morning, I'd banged on so much about how great it was that she thought I needed educating. And Matt Berry is a cult hero in our household thanks to his role in Garth Marenghi's Darkplace (our cat is named Dr Sanchez after Berry's character) and an awesome concert he played in Glasgow last year, where he was good enough to pose afterwards for photos doing the "fist punch" greeting from Darkplace. I'm looking forward to checking out some baritone prog-folk.

I got my missus the Drive soundtrack (if you've seen the film, you'll know why) and what is rapidly becoming my favourite album of the year, To The Death Of Fun by Cashier No.9. It was this board that got me interested in them as a poster here mentioned that David Holmes produced the album - he really can do no wrong. Summery bliss.

So, I did pretty well music wise this year (giving a wish list of records to my girlfriend certainly helped!!! ).

I got the following records from various family members:-

Black Angels - Passover
White Hills - Hp1
Beach Boys - Smile
Kurt Vile - Smoke Ring For My Halo
Peaking Lights - 936

I've bought/ordered the following records with Christmas vouchers/money:-

Black Angels - Directions To See A Ghost
White Hills/Gnod - Gnod Drop Out With White Hills
Cashier No.9 - To The Death Of Fun
Arbouretum - The Gathering

Oh, and a friend got me the I Break Horses album, Hearts, on CD (doesn't he know I only buy records these days??!! Though seeing as the CD was about £7 and the record was nearly £20 I can understand his reasoning).

The record that has been getting played most in our house this holiday period though is the King Creosote/Jon Hopkins album that my parents bought for my girlfriend... what a lovely, beautiful record. They're playing a gig in a church in Brighton at the beginning of Feb but I'm going to miss it as away on hols in Oz (I shouldn't be that gutted that I'm going to miss a gig for a month long holiday to the other side of the world should I?! :? ). My other half also treated herself to the PJ Harvey album which we've only played once so far but sounds very promising.

Anyway, got loads of music to listen to...just hope I can now find the time to sit back and enjoy. 8)
