Rare Heads CD through their site

Post by runcible »

If anyone is after The Heads 'Time Is Now' Man's Ruin compilation - now almost impossible to find at a reasonable price - the band have found a box of them and are selling them at the standard price through their merch page. Well worth it if you don't have it already.

Thanks for the heads-up (no pun intended). I've been after a copy of this for ages.

Cheers for that, I've been looking out for it for a while now.

Speaking of The Heads, I've noticed on their site they've listed that they covered the Hawkwind song 'Born to Go.' Does anyone have any idea where I could get a copy/listen to this?

Born To Go was on a very limited split 10" on Rocket with Lillydam White and Plastic Crimewave Sound. They pop up occasionally but are very pricey. Some here:
http://www.discogs.com/sell/list?releas ... 9871&ev=rb

That guy with the £75 copy has some cool bits but completely insane prices. £350 for a test press? Madness! If you are still having trouble finding one drop me a PM...

Got my copy today and I'm looking forward to rocking it in the car this evening. Only downside to this release is that the art is pretty weak and it comes in a standard jewel case, as opposed to the awesome LP-style sleeves that Sam Giles makes for them. My understanding is that The Heads themselves didn't have anything to do with the art. This is a minor gripe, obviously, as the music is what counts.

Didn't realise this was a rarity. This is is the only Heads CD I own after picking it up from the band off their merch stall when they last played Brighton. Bought it after I asked which album had the song on it which they finished their set with that night which turned out to be the awesome You Can Lean Back Sometimes. Sure my CD jumps quite a bit on some tracks though.

You sure about that? I've seen them loads of times (including the same tour you did) and they have never played that track! What's more they have - on every single occasion - finished with Spliff Riff, a track whch does indeed feature on The Time Is Now. They rehearse their set for a while before each tour to get it just right and then stick to that set for every date in my experience so a variation seems unlikely...

Am having an issue with Paypal which means a restricted account right now but would like to get both 'Time Is Now!' and 'Time In Space Vol2' but unable to. Would anyone like to buy them for me and I'll forward the money/cheque to you and also I'll throw in 3 very rare compilation CD's with lots of great music on them.

Actually Mark, I think you're right. They did finish with Spliff Riff and I bought the album off the strength of that. I then found You Can Lean Back Sometimes on there and couldn't believe it was even better.

I was actually umming and ahhing about buying this as I thought £15 was a bit steep but then just watched that video and bought it straight away. What a performance? As little as I know about the Heads, I forgot how much I enjoyed seeing them in Brighton a couple of years back supporting the Wooden Shjips. Which reminds me, has anyone got a spare ticket for their London show in a couple of weeks?

Also, may have missed it on the forum somewhere else, but was the Heads live in Tilburg album ever posted up on the forum? I see its only available on vinyl and, as I havent got a record player (doh!) I wondered if some kind soul has ripped and uploaded it and, if not, can someone?

Mine arrived in Ireland today, number 34. The bag has "The Heads Live At Koko" printed on it in the same style as The Who Live At Leeds. Liked the insert too. :D

Even though we would've ordered at the same time, theWarmth gets his cd in Chicago a day before i get mine in Ireland!!!! :?

I had a brief moment of panic when I thought I forgotten to order "Koko". However, I checked my PayPal account and not only have I got Koko on the way, I'm waiting on the 2xLP of Tilburg. Could be a tad noisy for the neighbours in the near future.....

Would love that design but as a green or blue print on a red shirt. Picked up one of those other ones at Koko last year, blue on red, very nice.

There were meant to be 500 Tilburg on vinyl but I believe 1000 were pressed by mistake. It's also worth keeping an eye on that merch page as they deliberately don't warn people about new limited things coming out so those that are constantly looking get first dabs.

My shirt arrived this morning - looks nice.

Oddly enough, i'd never heard the Heads' stuff before.....i'd heard their name around, but never got around to listening to them. I'm watching the "Live At Koko" gig--man, that's on fire. If the Stooges were re-doing "Funhouse", that's what it'd sound like. I love the super over the top lead guitars. Fuck, seriously, this shit is amazing.

February is shaping up to be a great month in terms of my favourite bands, Mogwai, The Heads and The Durutti Column all releasing new material. Hope I score a brown paper bag - I got one with the KoKo CD - brilliant (and v. cheap to produce) marketing.

Well that caused some minor panic at my house. I had put my paper bag "somewhere safe" and couldn't find it. Cue much disbelief from my wife, followed by laughter as my searching grew more frantic. Turns out I'ld put it in the sleeve to my Tilberg LP. The look on Jackie's face when I told her what the thing was worth was priceless. I'll never hear the end of this though. "He's got $200 paper bags in the collection now, used to be only records with sandpaper sleeves were worth anything....."

One of the first Rooster releases came in a neat paper bag and I idiotically threw mine away. I realised what I had done next time I was in Bristol and I pleaded with the band for another - luckily one was spare and my set was restored. I know the Koko bags ran out quicker than expected so I was really lucky they had a spare for the older CD.

First 50 copies (of 88) of Vertigo Swill became available last night, only found out now so not sure how many are left, if any. Extremely jealous of anyone who got one of the textured sleeve copies, of which there were only 20.

Why are Heads releases always so strictly limited and on CDR's.... are they not on a proper label as such? I like their music and all but I find it all rather elitist, especially when these things fetch so, so much money on E-Bay. Not sure if they have got their whole supply/demand business model set up correctly :? Also, is it even worth trying to get hold of any of their albums on vinyl or I'm exposing myself to a world of financial ruin?

I like their music and all but I find it all rather elitist, especially when these things fetch so, so much money on E-Bay. Not sure if they have got their whole supply/demand business model set up correctly :? Also, is it even worth trying to get hold of any of their albums on vinyl or I'm exposing myself to a world of financial ruin?
Check your PMs.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me either that they do such limited runs, when they could clearly sell much larger quanitites and make a bit more money (to record another studio album!). However, I believe I read that they're likely to do a larger second pressing of Vertigo Swills in the future, so perhaps this first run will have fancier/special artwork and is aimed at the hardcore fans.
