What an incredible LP... One Way To Go and South Pacific on there are incredible.

Not a bootleg though, contrary to popular belief... Pressed officially to look like a boot.

If they ever get around to doing a box set of unreleased material, I'd love to hear some of the outtakes from the shows they recorded from that tour. In '92 they played an incredible song called Change My Life (Brake Lights) which is only circulating now in fairly poor quality, and a faster early version of Where the Geese Go. Sadly, with Ashcroft's renewed focus on the solo career (the new LP is apparently fairly cringeworthy), we'll probably have to wait quite some time before any more Verve sees release.

As I said in the dicky ashcroft thread, I'd rather see this one at the top of the topic list.

Never owned a physical vinyl copy of Voyager 1. Wore out a cassette copy that was almost literally superglued into my car stereo somewhere around 1994 and hadn't listened to since I until I found mp3s online a few years ago.

Didn't the story go that half of the copies fell off a boat on the way over to the states?

1000 pressed.
320 copies warped in a Los Angeles warehouse.
Approx 680 copies are floating around.
This is the original blue vinyl version.
No idea about the black vinyl bootlegs.

Ah, so that's what happened, thanks for the clarification.

Seems there was a really strong push to get the Verve noticed in the states very early in their career, with Voyager 1 and The Verve EP.

Wouldn't it be a shame if it was announced tomorrow that all the copies of United Nations Of Sound have unfortunately warped in a warehouse somewhere.

If anyone could hook me up with an mp3 version of this, I'd be grateful and would return the favor with something cool. Let me know. I tried to snag Alan's copy, but he's keeping it.

i always wonder about this story, the ~700 copies floating around. i've got a couple over the years including one that was in shrink wrap (i took it off, warps the corners). always see a few for sale on ebay.

i've got a black vinyl one as well. looks and sounds exactly the same. sleeve looks exactly the same too...

I see what a few people are asking which is around $135 US. And it doesn't sell at all. But with each shitty Richard Ashcroft record the values goes down. About 3 or 4 years ago I got $270 for one.
I have worked a deal with Brian Cannon from Microdot to sell his limited Oasis I Am The Walrus shirts in the US. I am begging him to let us do a Voyager 1 shirt next. He is trying to track down the artwork.
The figures I posted were direct from someone at Caroline. I was called when they unearthed the last 173 copies and they asked if I wanted more. I took them all. I wish I had kept more but sadly I didn't. I know Mr Runcible took 10 off me when I had loads. But that was over 15 years ago.

Thanks for posting, but are you sure that the playback speed is correct? I compared it with my vinyl copy and it seems fast.

well, I put my Pro-Ject turntable on 33 1/3 rpm before hitting record on the ediroll, that's as correct as I can get it, speedwise :)

thanks so much for posting this, not only is it much better quality than the previous rip i had, but it has the full version of Superstar (annoyingly, mine was incomplete!)

Thanks for this. Played it earlier on a walk into town and had forgotten how incredible it is. Totally puts into perspective Mr Ashcrofts fall from grace.

There's a Verve show on dime right now - Camden Town Hall 1992. This is the London show that half of the Voyager 1 songs came from. Worth checking out too, the version that's up there came from the taper.

I am the lucky owner of Verve - Voyager 1 on blue vinyl, still not listened to it. Had it for nearly four years, think I paid close to £100 for it.
