Spread Your Wings Live Rare spiritualized track

Post by BennyC »

A while ago when I was a teenager my mate made me a spiritualized tape which I sWEAR had a Spread Your Wings live track on it, or at least a non-instrumental non-pure phase album version on it.

Much trawling through the internet seems to suggest this track does not exist. Am I correct? Is it out there? Am I going crazy? I can remember the melody, please tell me I am not going crazy?!

Hiya, I there was a free Select tape once that had a mix of Spread your Wings / Feels like going home on it. This could be what you are thinking of. Hard to find the track because it was casette only I think, but someone may have a digital version of it.

Specifically, it's got the wobbly synth bits from the end of Pure Phase and the beginning of Feel Like Going Home in it. I don't have it on my computer, but it's called 'Spread Your Wings (Pure Phase)'. Try finding the Real Complete Works somewhere?

Soryr to be difficult but I swear the version I'm thinking of was live, and like a complete rearrangement, with a minimal band playing it - with just the lyrics staying the same - like an alternative version?

I have never heard of a live version of this and I know some very serious Spz tapers.

It remains THE song Spz fans want to hear live so I'd be surprised if it has been performed or released in some way without anyone here having heard of it.

If it has been played live, where the past and present forum members' consensus is that it hasn't, there is some Spz fan who has never seen the light of day for 15 years who lives in a cave where he listens to his live version of "Spread Your Wings" every day and pees himself on the reg.

Are you sure you're not mixing it up with another song? Maybe "Feel Like Going Home"? "All of My Tears"?

While combing the back alleys of this forum, I found this:
Silk City, Philadelphia, PA
August 24, 1996

01. Intro
02. Cop Shoot Cop...
03. Shine A Light
04. Electric Mainline
05. All Of My Thoughts>Feel Like Going Home
06. All Of My Tears
07. Take Your Time
08. Come Together
09. Walking With Jesus
10. Electricity
11. These Blues
So, if anyone happens to have this bootleg, please try to upload at least the All of My Thoughts/Feel Like Going Home track.

Thanks for all your expertise, perhaps I can only conclude that my mind has been playing tricks on me. I shall look for all of my tears/feel like going home. Thanks again!

I have that gig somewhere in the basement... Unfortunately, the tracklist is not entirely correct. The "Feel Like Going Home" part of "All Of My Thoughts" is actually nothing but an extended ending. It seems the original trader mistook this outro for the FLGH-outro, which is actually kind of similar.

Silk City is a wee little venue - I saw Dirty Three with Man Or Astroman? there - pure insanity!

I was at this show. It was like seeing them in your parents basement. No stage platform. You'd have to walk right by them to go to the bathroom! Weird and wonderful gig. Would definitely like a copy of this show if someone has one.

I wish I was at this show. I heard about it.
I had a few friends that used to dj at silk city and yeah, it's a tiny venue, (I can 'guess' at why he played there since it's rather close to North Philly and some certain streets... but I don't know for sure)

Would've been a very very intimate setting.

I only saw them live in Philadelphia at the Trocadero, during the Let It All Come Down tour, right after they banned smoking inside,
(and of course JP's up on stage chain smoking, completely unlit by any lights, so it's all silhouettes and the red cherry of his cigarette..)

If anyone finds the Silk City bootlegg, please pm me or message me etc :)

Pretty cool: Friends of mine asked me to fly out for that gig. Wish I did. They had a blast.
