25th psychocandy shows?
from nme website
The Jesus And Mary Chain's Jim Reid has said he "wouldn't rule out" playing their debut album 'Psychocandy' in full.
Next month sees the 25th anniversary of the release of the group's 1985 studio effort - along with the release of new best of 'Upside Down' on November 15 - although the frontman admitted that if the band did perform it live, it would be "very hard".
"As far as [playing] 'Psychocandy' is concerned, I wouldn't rule it out," Reid told The VPM. "But the truth of the matter is, it's a very hard record to play live. Christ only knows how we managed to do it all those years ago, but we probably didn't! We were probably just so drunk that we thought we did."
Although now a hugely influential album, Reid said that the band had a number of things they wanted to change about the record.
"We wanted to make changes to 'Psychocandy' within a matter of days after completion," he admitted. "It's like that with any record you make, it can never be perfect, you always want to keep changing things and tinkering with it. You just have to kind of draw the line somewhere because this doesn't really make it better – it just makes it different from what it would have been."
He added: "Looking back on 'Psychocandy' now it's a bit like looking at an old photograph of ourselves or something, it crystallizes exactly what we were about at that point in time, but of course we change, but the record doesn't."

I agree. It would be very difficult to reproduce those sounds live. I didn't even know they were still talking to each other much less playing live again. Of course, playing in Detroit in the event of this unlikely event even being scheduled would be way too much to ask...

Re: 25th psychocandy shows?
It would be interesting if the shows included Bobby Gillespie on drums. ^^
Mh, I wouldn't say it would be difficult to reproduce the sound live. Psychocandy is easier to reproduce than many other records.

W: What are we supposed to do with that?
M: Eat it.
W: Eat it? Fucker’s alive.
M: Yeah, you’ve got to kill it.

They've been playing the occasional show here and there. I saw them in 2007 and they were quite good - Loz from Ride is on drums and Phil from Lush is playing bass for them now.Horrorflick wrote:I didn't even know they were still talking to each other much less playing live again.
Re: 25th psychocandy shows?
I can't see this happening, the quote comes from the very last answer of an interview Jim gave recently but i don't believe it was said with any real conviction. Besides which, if anyone has been following William's posts on youtube you'll probably agree that anything from the brothers is a long way off. Grim viewing: http://www.youtube.com/user/bbcreid
The good news is that all the studio albums are getting the deluxe treatment with relevant b-sides, radio sessions, demos, live material etc. I've got all the material anyway but no doubt will go and buy them again.
I'd also recommend "Upside Down, The Best Of..." a 44 track, 2-cd compilation released recently that you can pick up on Amazon for under five quid. Got mine at the weekend for £3.99 but i think it's back up to £4.99 now. Bargain either way.

my CD of Psychocandy has really flat mastering so could definitely do with an upgrade. would also love all the relevant tracks from the time.. i'm one of those people that think Psychocandy is something they never got close to again!
Re: 25th psychocandy shows?
There's a note on the new 'Best Of' saying that...
"...forthcoming expanded reissue of pshychocandy. This will include relevant b-sides, radio sessions, demos, rarities and live tracks. and will be followed by similar editions of all studio albums!

Re: 25th psychocandy shows?
Like that track he posted on his youtube, not quite as good as those live versions they did though?
Re: 25th psychocandy shows?
Looks like Screamadelica is also getting the reissue treat in March next year.

I wonder whether there'll ever be a Ride reunion. More absurdley, I dreamt of a Lush reunion a couple of weeks ago.Chris Barrus wrote:They've been playing the occasional show here and there. True. It would be too good to be true.angelsighs wrote:Already There wrote:I wonder whether there'll ever be a Ride reunion.

I am curious what the Creation Records film is going to be like. I only read what was in last week's NME, but that sounded pretty interesting. It said they were going to tour the film? I wonder how that's going to work. Has anyone been at the showing on the 23rd?

Re: 25th psychocandy shows?
I just bought that Freeheat CD called Back On The Water. Totally confused as to what the point of this is. 10 of the 17 tracks are live. Its ok. It was a cheapie on Amazon.
I remember seeing them 1/2 mile from my house. They were good. There were less than 50 people there.

Re: 25th psychocandy shows?
nice one, i've got the original CD which is very flat. I think that CD issue came out at the same time as 21 Singles (which i've got and the songs sound MUCH better on there)niamhm wrote:angelsighs wrote:got any more info on this?sunray wrote:The good news is that all the studio albums are getting the deluxe treatment with relevant b-sides, radio sessions, demos, live material etc. I've got all the material anyway but no doubt will go and buy them again.

this new reissue looks like it has my name on it. like i say I love Psychocandy but nothing else of theirs has really grabbed me. this will be a chance for me to mop up that era in one foul swoop.
