Pure Phase & LGM vinyl reissues

Post by Sim »

@acrylicnoise has mentioned this on a couple of posts earlier today, but he's right, this doesn't have it's own thread, so here it is:

Pure Phase and LGM vinyl reissues on Plain - available 18/01/11

Excellent. I've been itching to get LGM on vinyl for years for the artwork alone! Looks like I've figured out what my belated Christmas gift will be...

Thanks Sim...

I just hope they press them from an analogue source. We'll see how they sound. I want them anyway, but it'd be nice for them to have the proper pressing like A&E!

Another good thing for me is that I bought the LGM CD release that had the songs on only 4 tracks and because of that, I suppose, I never really took the time to listen to it fully. I also haven't revisited Pure Phase for a while. So, this is going to be like getting two new records!

LGM is by far the best Spiritualized LP imho... you're in for quite a treat!

When I say I didn't listen to it fully, I did listen to the whole thing, but I just didn't listen to it as many times. Yes, I'm looking forward to rediscovering these albums again. This vinyl revival is wonderful!

These should have been out last week but must have been delayed. Cant wait to get hold of them.

If anyone is still after the Plain reissue of L&G or the original or Songs in A&E rockbox.co.uk have them

http://www.rockbox.co.uk/cgi-bin/ss0000 ... ritualized

They arrive packaged well in double bubble wrap and cardboard.

On the subject of amazing packaging I received my LAGWAFIS 12x 3" CD box last week. Incredibly well thought out w/foam strips surrounding the entire box. Held the box in place for its journey across the Atlantic and it arrived here in mint shape. Not common at all.

Anyone got their PP/LGM re-issues yet? Mine are on order from Amazon since Jan 8th and it seems like they're having trouble sourcing them.

I've had trouble before with Amazon pre-orders (for the first three Wilco albums) but they eventually delivered them. Hope the same doesn't happen to the Sparklehorse album re-issues.

System Records stated they were in stock yesterday and earlier today and now they say not in stock

http://www.systemrecords.co.uk/spiritua ... 53798.html

Ordered both on 2nd Jan and paid for them there and then through paypal :(

I have raised a query with them

They are still on preorder with Norman records

http://www.normanrecords.com/poogle/ind ... ritualized

These are the only two Uk shops I could find them in

Plain have a reputation for poor pressings and not getting orders out on time but when an original copy of Ladies and Gentlemen went for £112 on ebay last week, where else do you get the vinyl from?

Yeah, definitely not yesterday.

I check into me local shoppe today and they hadn't ordered them yet. SHAME.

But something interesting happened. The distributor listed Pure Phase as "Pure Phase Tones for DJ's." I almost shat myself thinking that they were also reissuing that LP, but it was just a mistake on the part of the distributor. Two things gave it away: they didn't list Pure Phase by itself being reissued and they listed it as a 2 LP release, which would be impossible for DJ Tones (unless they had "bonus tracks"........'unreleased outtakes of "Pure Phase"' !!). Gave me a big laugh...

Well, I've seen some on Ebay, so they are in existance. It just takes amazon a little extra time to get them. I'm waiting too... eagerly!

Oh yeah, and Pure Phase has Good Times and a second Pure Phase on the D side and Lazer Guided Melodies is cut at 45 RPM.

Apart from one of the inner sleeves in my copy of LGM having a ripped seam, I'm very happy with these.

Got mine today. Listening to Pure Phase now. Sounds decent.

The inserts for PP are clearly photocopied. You can see ring wear on the black sides of them that is part of the image printed on them.

That's the 'authentic distressed look' so that they can be passed off as first pressings!

Perhaps that explains the writing on the LGM label that was mentioned too?

So has anyone in the UK got hold of their copies yet? System and Norman records say they are still on pre order but those in Canada and the States seem to have theirs.

Just received my LGM from Amazon.com (I'm in Ireland) which was expediated delivery (cos I hassled them about the late shipping). Looks great, no writing on the label, one minor tear on an inner sleeve.

PP should arrive pretty promptly. I also received my copy of Sparklehorse's Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot (also Plain), didn't know there was a free 7" inside :) ...

i finally got my copies the other day.

admittedly i'm fairly new to vinyl and so this may sound like blasphemy to the old heads here but so far ive found lazer guided melodies kind of a pain in the ass to listen to on vinyl which i guess because its a double LP.

i'm too used to mp3 (or CD i guess) instead of coming from the other direction .. where the songs just flow beautifully into one another until the end without having to get up and change sides and new records

it all sounds great to me though.. whatever sounds "best" is just gonna be a personal preference at the end of the day

meaningless question, but was the original pressing of LGM also 45 rpm?
I think I feel it coming on

just got these as an excellent birthday present. Listened to Pure Phase last night - it was wonderful! I realised I haven't listened to it in a long time so it I'd almost forgotten how good it is.

A couple of tracks had some bad crackles on them though, I'm going to have to check out LGM, to see if it has the same problem.

Intrigued by the track order though - Good Times, and an additional Pure phase on side 4 - was the original vinyl like that?

I've got old and much played vinyl copies of LGM (w/ free single) and PP. The reissues are pretty good. FWIW I prefer vinyl to CD anyway but these reissues are nearly as good as the originals and shouldn't suffer from the surface noise that repeated playing in a student house generates. I've also got the CDs, but rarely dig 'em out to play. These reissues are better value for money than the SP3 reissues. I had lots of hassle with the pressing quality (returned SOC twice before we found a copy that had less surface noise tham my 20-odd year old LP).

I agree with Olan. Pure Phase and LGM especially. At least with my setup, LAG doesn't sound as good as the CD.

Still great "beater" copies.
