Connect

Post by mkb »

I've just received an email from a friend saying that Spiritualized are apparently playing the Connect festival in Inveraray later this year, alongside Grinderman and Sigur Ros amongst others. Tickets on sale tomorrow.

EDIT: Confirmation of this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/news/20080403_connect.shtml

Connect would be the Scottish equivalent of the Electric Picnic in Ireland which is on the same weekend and shares many of the same bands.

E.P is a great festie but this years line-up is a bit disappointing so far. Far too many bands way past their peak imo. Last years though had one of the greatest line-ups i've ever seen at any festival and in fairness you will have a great time no matter who's playing really. Hopefully i can blag a worker's pass again!

This also makes me wonder if there's going to be another Grinderman album this year, seeing as they're playing and The Bad Seeds aren't. If there is another album, then Nick Cave is certainly becoming more prolific as he gets older, because that would be his 9th album so far this decade (if you include soundtrack albums and count Abattoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus as two albums).

This is a great festival, with a great atmosphere. Can't wait to see Spiritualized.

The rest of the line up is nowhere near as good as it was last year though.

Anyone going to this...think i'll be making the slow trek there.

Digs? Has anyone sourced decent accomodation? Plundering Argyll online at the minute but this 3G aint all it's cracked up to be.

Nice lil line up...

Best,

Stuart

Im going to this. Went last year but had to leave early due to unforseen circumstances. Of the little taster I got I really enjoyed it.

I'm going, camping. Spiritualized are too far down the bill, I hope they are on for at least an hour but I can't see it.

It was beautiful, they were fantastic. It was my first time seeing Spiritualized play an electric gig, and it didn't disappoint.

Highlights were Shine a Light, Sitting On Fire, She Kissed Me, Lay Back In The Sun and the awesome ending of Come Together/Take Me To The Other Side. Absolutely incredible.

Grinderman followed them and they were out of this world as well, the best pair of back-to-back festival gigs I've ever seen.

From the NME web site

http://www.nme.com/photos/550/6/hydro-connect-2008

Jason Pierce, lead singer of Spiritualized on the Oyster Stage at Hydro Connect Festival 2008. During his gospel-esque tune, 'Soul On Fire', mist from the Loch Fyne swept over the Scottish crowd and the moment was too much for Pierce who appeared to well up, gulp down tears and put on his Aviators to hide his eyes. I had a great time over the weekend apart from the obvious quagmire that should have been addresssed after last year.
Crackin set from SPZ that the weather couldnt spoil. was really made up to hear lay back in the sun live for the first time in many SPZ shows. The group I was with who had all only ever been to the AM shows were lovin it.

Spent a fuckin fortune between the loch fyne and whisky tent. had a couple of drinks with phil kay which was good banter
