Donaufestival (Krems, Austria), April 2009

Post by Max's Self Is Steam »

Spiritualized have now been officially confirmed for the festival's first (long) weekend (April 22nd-25th). Can't wait! Their 2007 line-up was one of the best I've ever seen (with Current 93's David Tibet and Throbbing Gristle each curating two days) and this one looks rather nice so far as well. The area itself is rather beautiful; the festival's smaller venue is a church and I wish Spz could play there, but I guess they'll play the main hall... should be brilliant anyway.
EDIT: Hmm, the festival's site doesn't mention them any more, although its MySpace still does? :|

This show has not been confirmed, the promoter jumped the gun with the announcement. It may still happen but it will only be confirmed once it is up on this site.

Now the festival's official site lists Spiritualized playing the first weekend of the festival (this year's theme is "fake reality"- whatever that means), alongside Sonic Youth, Butthole Surfers, and Chicks on Speed. http://www.donaufestival.at/content-1/f ... ogramme-09

Can we expect another SY/Spz jam session?

I'd be surprised if SY and Spz ended up playing on the same day (SY's will be the 22nd). Both bands seem like quite large ones for that festival (although, actually, Spiritualized aren't particularly well-known in Austria, so you never know). No-Neck Blues Band will play there on the 22nd as well, yay... I'll be sure to attend the festival that day and whenever Spiritualized will appear.

And before I forget to ask about it, where does that "SY/Spz jam session" idea come from? The "another" part, most importantly? Never heard of that :o

They played John Peel's Meltdown series in 1998 together and at the end they all went up on stage and played an 11 minute jam session. I believe people on the forum have debated its quality.

I'm sure if you search the forums you'll find a link to it.

Setlist:

Amazing Grace/You Lie You Cheat
Shine A Light
Cheapster
Soul On Fire
Walkin' With Jesus
Think I'm In Love
Lay Back In The Sun
Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space
Take Your Time
Come Together
Take Me To The Other Side

Great gig, and those last twenty minutes or so -- from Take Your Time onwards, ending with TMTTOS's extended noise bit -- were simply extraordinary and up there with anything else I've heard anywhere. Couldn't stop dancing!

Sounds like it was a good gig, like the look of that set list!

Just as well - you can pretty much guarantee that's what we're getting at ATP!!!

Maybe see you at the weekend Greeny? I'll have my trusty silver converse on and a slightly grubby beard.
