Silent Sound

Post by spazed99 »

Silent Sound by Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard
Music by J. Spaceman. Introduced by Dr. Ciarán O'Keeffe.

More info: http://www.silentsound.info

Silent Sound first took place in 2006 in Liverpool. There will be a second performance on Sunday 7th March 2010 in Middlesbrough at the gothic Town Hall.

Conceived by British artists Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard, Silent Sound is an otherworldly experiment using controversial mind control technology to transmit a subliminal message during a live music performance. The artists joined forces with J. Spaceman from Spiritualized, commissioning him to create a new composition for the project to carry their subliminal message.

Silent Sound sets out to warp your perception and stage a remarkable experience loaded with potential which intensifies your experience of being in the here-and-now. Drawing on the powerful psychological set-up of 19th century Spiritualist public performances and inspired by Victorian entertainers The Davenport Brothers who were famed for attempting to contact the souls of the dead using their ‘spirit cabinet’, the artists perform inside their own specially created soundproof cabinet. From the stage inside their cabinet they repeatedly broadcast a spoken 'message', this signal is fed into a custom-made Silent Sound machine, which subliminally embeds the message within the music and transmits it throughout the performance.

The event will be recorded live and a limited edition CD will be available.

This is exciting news; although for me the stretch to 'Boro on my B'day will be a stretch too far.

No chance of this heading too Scotland, spazed? Had thought about the Instal festival but that seems to have fallen by the way-side this year.
