Shame you have to get round his repellent personality though. The guy sounds absolutely horrible!

I watched this film recently (it's on netflix for anyone who has that). not a classic rock doc, but quite interesting, and I did come away with a larger respect for his talent.
there was a quote doing the rounds recently where he said that Bonham and Moon "couldn't swing a sack of shit"- that was taken slightly out of context, before that he does say that "they had great technique, BUT.." what he was trying to say is that they weren't jazz drummers (which is what he considers himself to be).

he still does come across as a right tosser though. why someone has to be that horrible is beyond me.

There was an article in the Guardian recently about great rock and roll fights. Ginger Baker was most regularly mentioned in the comments but didn't get a mention in the original piece. It seems like he is a real piece of work, but as a drummer is unquestionably top class. Another one to file under 'trust the art and not the artist' perhaps.

The drummer who did get a mention was Charlie Watts who took exception to Mick Jagger describing him as being "only my drummer" at a press conference. Afterwards, Charlie strolls down to Mick's room, knocks politely on the door, chins Mick knocking him out and then reminds the prone Mick that he is "only my singer".
