r spz as good as they used 2b
Just liked the more spacey sounds like the let it come down tour where the endings were louder and longer. They would just drift off into two chord heaven. Not into js shouting rough voice thing at the moment but liked the ending at Brixton.
The best bit of a spz gig was electricmainline out of shine a light and then a bit of no god only religion later on. Are they gonna do a new album soon and I think john coxon does fuck all at the shows apart from strum cords. Why not fuck him off and get something intresting in instead, where did the kettle drums go they were brilliant percussion. I always tell my friends how ace the gigs r but always feel dissapointed after a show.
Next gig will be my 11 time what do new spz lovers think of recent gigs.
p.s. tesco have stopped sellin king size rizzle in York

Are spz still any good
Gotta agree with ya. I know it's a constant topic of discussion on these boards, but I for one really think Jason has painted himself into a bit of a corner. I've been to see pretty much every Spiritualized tour since their inception, and prior to that I was a massive Spacemen fan and got to see them a number of times as well.
The thing is there seems to be less and less going on on stage, no pun intended, I'm refering to textures and layers of sounds. Also I think the tunes themselves are really quite weak, especially the newer stuff which is really very poor.
But, Iam a still such a fan of the whole thing that I still get excited when something new is mentioned about Jason and his mob in the press or tv or whatever. I think it's more because the band is the one constant that I have continually returned to.
I think Jason just needs to reverse a bit out of the culdersac he has driven the band into.

i saw them back in the day, when they were good. who gives a fuck?
if it was any good and you can still remember enough to bore people who weren't old enough (or maybe 'cool enough' in your eyes) then you probabbly weren't even " there" anyway. where were you? Taking notes at the back of the club in case the internet was invented?
"I think john coxon does fuck all at the shows apart from strum cords.

who do you propose they get in? Carl Perkins maybe?!
and i suppose what is now lupine howl was England's equivelent of booker t and mg's back in the good old days when there was no internet and the same discussions were going on in fanzines about " that new band Jason's doing - spiritualized, not being as good as spaceman 3. " I remember a lot of people appreciating Spaceman 3 at the time aswell. Right. What about now? Its always then. A retrospective in Q or worse on TV. The good old days? They were rubbish.
My favourite spiritualized gig? the last one (couldn't go to brixton though) at the rfh. If you aren't fat, bald or jaded enough now to have had the chance to have seen any of these gigs " back in the good old days" , take it from me, you didn't miss anything - its all there now and even better.
Back in the good old days, acid house hadn't even been invented (and since raped and butchered before being sold off eventually to sell pot noodles) and indie discos (the sort of places you might have once found these now cynical hacks hanging about in their attempted youth looking for Talulah Gosh lookalikes) were as white as any skrewdriver gig... The wedding Present were even popular... Do I have to go on? Food was shit. You couldn't even buy a pizza where I lived...
These people talking about how it used to be make the characters in that horrible horrible insipid nick hornby book seem dynamic and take it from me that's a challenge. Go live. Spiritualized rule. and so does john coxon!
good night. Hideout.

Yeah the angry dude a few messages up is probably right. I probably am just getting old and jaded and longing for the "old days" when Spiritualized where actually a vital band. The fact is every thing seems better with a nostalgic tint to it. Of course everyone who saw them way back is gonna think they where better, including me, because, yes we where a lot younger and idealistic and full of life and thought we knew it all.
The very fact that we are still listening to the band, regardless of line up changes etc. Must mean something with regards to just how good a band they can be.
On another note I quite like John Coxon's prescence with the band, his Gibson looks pure Rock n Roll and he seems like a nice chap, plus Spring Heel Jack have made some truly exciting music recently, so he obviously knows his potatoes.
Big Love from an old git.

sorry john c for slaggin u down (first post) and to that twat whos calling me an old bastard im only 25 never saw the saw cook style line up and all that usuall bollocks.
I just dont like she kissed me live I want electricmainline thats all.
U must know the style it fits so well in leading other wanna b bands.
John c just looks a bit like what shall I do sometimes why have two guitars playing nearly the same riffs. And I still stand on bring back those big kettle drums and a little more harmonica and dont slack on the lights and a free smoke wouldnt go amiss.
